How to mount IFS steering box mount?
« on: Mar 02, 2007, 02:42:05 PM »
Do I end up welding the frame tubes to the frame on the outside of the frame?  Or do I weld the tubes to the outer plate and then slide the plate / tubes through the frame and then weld the tubes to the inner frame?

I used a bolt to line up the sleves with the holes then I cut the holes in the frame to allow for the welds. Make shure the inside plate fits over the sleves easily, before welding the sleves up solid. Next slide the outside plate in and sandwich the frame with the inside plate. Mock everything up, tighten then tack weld, and flex for box/tierod end to spring contact.
Hug your kids, pray for a soldier, and don't sweat the small stuff.

thanks, the picture of it welded to the frame helps me out tremendously, cause I created a front bumper that will be welded to the frame and looks like I'm going to have to hold off on welding it up until I get an IFS steering box mount and see how I can make the two work together....

btw nice looking rig, I just got an 84' 4Runner bout three weeks ago "newbie" and everything is stock except for 34" tsl swampers.........for now I've already caught the mod bug!!!

Just mount the box as far forward on the frame as possible with the pitman arm tilted up as much as possible.

Like MiniSimp said, mount that box as far forward as possible!  I cut my radiator support out to move it forward even more.

Thanks for checking out my rig, you'll love that 84 4Runner!

that won't work with the type of bumper mount I have, it's home-made. :flamer:
I'll probably just drill the bumper mount to line up with the bolt holes on the IFS mount and just not use the other side that comes with the IFS mount

maybe i can post some pics of it to show you guys what i'm talkin bout cause it sorta :screwy:

sounds like you may need to redesign your bumper, having the steering that far forward is a must. :twocents:

back to the old drawing board, first day out and already tore off the bumper, it stuck too far out so I guess there won't be any problems with the IFS steering mount now, just need a new bumper idea...

Thanks for the extra pics DirToyBoy
