ok so the search option my be temporarily disabled so ill just post this up. :dunno:

looking into a new cam for my 87 runner. i currently have a downey header, 2.5 exhaust system, downey intake, and am in process of also ordering a set of balanced injectors from LCE. i may at the same time do their big bore throttle body. i was looking into their cams as well but their cams might be a bit too much for what i wanna do. id like to keep some decent bottom end to the truck. the truck is DD ( lots of highway milage) and goes to the local trails whenevr possible. the 4Runner is bone stock other then the mods done to the motor. IFS front end, 4:10's, and 285's (yea i know) for tires altho that'll soon change soon as they wear out to a set of 31's or 33's.

ive looked into LCE, engnbldr, crane, downey, and forget who else's cams but i think a screwed myself looking into so damn many of em. :headscratch: so i wanna know what everyone else is runnin and see what you guys think has worked out best.

www.4crawler.com has a good writeup on cams...

engnbldr is a great guy and has good stuff, but many have said his cams aren't very aggressive (well, maybe thats a good thing?)

also TRD has cams as well... some are even smog legal

Ive got a stage II LC Engineering Cam. Its pretty cool. Its more top end by far. I like it better because I do a lot of Freeway driving so at 70MPH Im at 3K RPM so thats right in the tits zone for the cam and I have "on demand power"
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

GET IT!!!

LB- ive been aiming twards the LCE cams but wondered if it was too much list, tho seeing the links duffil supplied it looks like you need a bit of duration for there to be any real diffrence.

seems like everyone is into the LCE cams. i was looking into how much duration and lift they offer and thought it may be too much, but after reading a few threads it may be just about right. thanks guys for the help. imma look into a few more people on what cams theyve done and see what final outcome i come up with.

Duffil

IIRC, lift will build more torque, and duration will build more HP, but you need a balance of both to get a decent power curve.

hmm.. didnt know that. im really new to all of this internal modification deal. never really torn anything down bigger then a bike. this is quite a bit diffrent tho so im trying to be careful of all these guys' claims of mega power and such. mega power increase tho could mean sometime after 5000 RPM so yea...
