I sent him a email and they said no to marlins flanges. When I called to order the 30 spline super set I asked again and before the lady I was talking to could get the question out of her mouth to her co workers yelled  out NO!
 :screwy: :dunno:

I talked directly to Bobby mentioning the Marlin flanges and he flat out said stripped birfield splines would not be a problem with drive flanges.

That makes me mad I sould have saved some money. Would it be worth while to change my order now though? I'm excited about getting this stuf and I'm kinda worried to screw with my order now.

50$ is $50. I would get the drive flanges if I were you personally. You still need to address hub stud strength. Adding dowels is harder if you have lockouts. I got my dowel pins from McMaster Carr today. I can mail you some if you want. They only come in packages of 50.

Don't bother I get them on loan from work! What size did ya get? are you gonna install them yourself? Did ya get a reamer bit so the dowl pins would be a tight fit in the hub? I have a plan for building a jig to install my own extra dowl pins, but I gotta make a jig to get every thing right. I also need a reamer bit to get a good tight fit for the pins.

I was gonna just bolt the drive flange to the hub and drive both in at once so they are perfectly aligned. I have 5/16" dowels.

How does the reamer work and how is it different from a drill bit? Can I avoid buying one?

The reamer is just a slight under size so that the pins won't fall out. If you drill your holes the same size as the dowlspins they (the pins) would never stay in the hub. You have to drill out to a smaller size then use the reamer bit so that the dowl pins are a good snug fit. It would be more than worth while to buy the bit. One of the local machine shop may have a bit that you could loan or they might be willing to ream the holes for you.
You could have the dowl pins press fit into the flanges so that you don't have to take the whole hub to the shop. I talked to a local machinist and after being blown away by the price he quoted me to do the job, I'm still unshure about what to do.
 1 pay the local guy
 2 send them to hendrix
3 try myself and take a chance

 :headscratch: :wall:
Just to be safe Cole , try drilling a whole into a couple scrap pices of steel, then see if the dowl pins are a drive in fit. If they are then I was misinformed.

I am kicking myself for not getting the oversized dowel pins. They had ones that were a few thousandths larger for that exact reason.

Could I weld the pins into the flange so they slide into the hub body? It would be backwards from stock but I don't see any problem in it. There would be 2 pins in the hub and 4 in the flange.

I may just have a machinist friend do everything.

I wonder how bad I would get flamed on pirate for asking what others on that board have done.

I don't think you would get flamed at all since it is a legitimate question.

I will look everything over once all my parts arrive then weigh my options. I would like to do it all myself.

Are not angry that your new parts are all F'd up? I would not settle for "a little file work." You paid top dollar for those parts and shouldn't have to fix brand new stuff.

How long did you lurk out front with the camera for the UPS guy to come prancing up to your house with the parts he just destroyed? Did he even wonder why you were taking his picture?  :hahaha:

true that.... they should at least protect the splines better when shipping...though ups is notorious for bashing stuff....when my sliders came they already were broken in by UPS (which amazes me because i can drop the full weight of the truck on them without denting but UPS managed to)
