Locked in the front Q.
« on: Feb 06, 2007, 11:59:09 PM »
What is the bigget tire size you can get away with being stock and having a locker in the front? I think I heard 35's but not sure... If I was to get longs and a locker like a aussie or lockright can I run 37's or do I need 30 spines too? Thanks

i ran 35's in the front with an e-z locker and stock birfs for about 4 years before i broke one.
when i went above 35's i broke a stock birf almost every trip.
now running 30 spline longs and 38's. broke 1 30 spline after 2 years of abuse.

Friend would pop a birf every other trip out with locked front and 35"s.  I wouldn't recomend it.  It can be done (keep the wheel straight when you give it the skinny petal, be easy whenever turning) But it's a pain.
If you do lock, definelty carry spares.

Would pop on both high traction (rock piles) and dirt canyons (like you'll find @ Hollister)

For the last year I've been running stock birfs and a lockright in the front. I get it pretty hard sometimes and have blown quite afew birfs. Most birfs I've broken have been while turning, but I have blown them on straight line climbs. When I slip a tire then it grabs the resulting shockload is what seems to do them in. I am running 36x13.50 Irocs with 5.29 r&p with duals.
