We are now producing our very own Vechicle Speed Sensor (VSS). This 3-wire, 4-pluse magnetic pulse amplifier will convert ANY Toyota vehicle with a standard 22x1.50 mechanical speedometer drive to an electronic speedometer system. Features a standard Toyota VSS Plug for your convience. The Applications are unlimited, converting both 4WD and 2WD 22x1.50 mechanical speedometer setups to electronic 3-wire, 4-pulse speedometer setups. For 1992-95 V6 Applications, when converting to a Gear Drive Transfercase Setup, the only previous option was to use a 1992-1995 Toyota 4cyl 5-speed Gear Drive Transfercase VSS, that is $210.

The New Marlin Crawler VSS saves $150 on a 1992-95 V6 Transfercase Conversion.

Will this VSS sender work with an Autometer Electronic Programmable Speedometer? I sure hope it does because it's a heck of a lot better deal than what Downey has.

Yes, it will absolutely 100% work with ALL Electronic Adjustable or Programmable Speedometers!

It is especially easy with your gauge because there are no switches, its fully digital.

Very cool that it will work with the programmable speedo. But after I posted last night, I got to thinking and I'm not sure it will work with the computer though. I dropped a 4.3 TBI in my 83 and I think it requires a 2 pulse VSS. I'll have to do a little digging around to see if that will work. If I discover that it will, I'll definitely be ordering one. Thanks a bunch.

the older case and drive gear use a small metal plate instead of the cast mounting boss.  This sensor is designed to screw onto an older, gear-drive mechanical sender.

Duffil is correct. The Gear Drive Mechanical Speedometer Drive is held in place with a metal tab:





The Marlin Crawler VSS is designed to screw onto ANY 22x1.50 Sender as long as the drive shaft fits.

This must be a sign that I need to forge ahead on my dash project that I had all planned out. I even made a cardboard dash and paper life size gauges Now does anybody know the ohm rating of the fuel level gauge?

thats good to know mike thanks, jus what i need to get my junk legal and on the road due to the fact thats the only thing that failed when i took it in to the reff. It wasnt reading the 4 pulses from the ecm. As for the 3.4 it ran clean on the dino and everything went pretty smooth....  :turtle:ill be ordering it up tonight thanks again

What about a connector for this? I'm about to change my dash out and would probably go with a electronic speedometer..is it going to be a "go to the junk yard with some cutters" kinda ting?

this will work to the point that it would get rid of the VSS check (engine) light but it won't read proper speed to the computer, this vss will "double" your speed reading.  Here is some info that may be of some help.  I know it doesn't apply directly to toyota but still some good info to have. http://www.binderbulletin.org/forums/showthread.php?t=50649

I know i will prolly get flagged for this question, but does this work on my 91 V6 4x4??? I hate how mine makes a horrible noise when it's cold in the morning's, and a wanna replace mine, if this works, order me up!!!!

Yes, it is a direct replacement (using a gear drive sender) on all 1988-2004 V6 transfercases.

You need our new VSS and a sender from any mechanical speedometer cable 1988-1991 chain drive t/case.

Here is a comparison of a Gear Drive VSS (first picture) and a Chain Drive VSS (second picture).

The Gear Drive Sender fits a 24mm bore while the Chain Drive Sender fits a 34mm bore.

DIDO?  If not will a 95 speedo fit in my 85 SR5 cluster?

Wait, most 1st gen and I believe all 2nd gen speedometers have a digital output already which would be used with an engine conversion that requires a digital signal.

For instance, I have an engine from a 1995 T100 in my 1981 1st gen Hilux. The T100 used a cable speedometer drive, but at the Speedometer, there exists a digital output that sends an electronic speedometer signal to the T100 ECU.

So in order to make the 1995 ECU work in my 1981 Hilux, I somehow need to get a digital speedometer signal to the 1995 ECU. Fortunately, 1981 had an emissions control module that required an electronic speedometer signal, so in my native 1981 instrument cluster speedometer, there exists an electronic speedometer output.

I then used this electronic speedometer output from my native 1981 instrument cluster to get a digital signal for my 1995 ECU.

This same thing applied for Marlin's 1980 native instrument speedometer, Bevin's 1985 carburated 1985 native instrument speedometer, and Dean's 1985 2WD Turbo Diesel native instrument speedometer.

Check with the wiring for your truck and find out of the ECU has a SPD+ and a SPD- terminal on it. If so, then your vehicle already has an electronic speedometer sender somewhere on board.

Your 1985 cluster most likely has an electronic output on it, but I am not 100% sure. You would need to check the wiring for the '85 system. An electronic VSS is not for everyone.
