They are slightly wider but they will work. You will have to grind they u-bolts on the inside were the springs touch the u-bolts. I had stock u-bolts on the rear of my 83 until I did a u-bolt flip.

Chevy springs are wider, but only by 1/4" or something.

I bought the Landcruiser already mostly built up.  All I did was get the bodywork and paint job done.  More is coming though.

so just shim it where it meets the frame? 1/8 th on each side that would be a quarter? or just spread them a little to fit or make some...

I don't remember exactly how much wider, but either of those things will work.  As I recall, the metal sleeve in the spring eye is the widest part and you might just be able to grind it down.  If you have the springs, you can measure them and figure out smething.  If you use chevy springs, you need to move your shackle hanger back anyway, so you might as well fab a new one or modify the old one to one that is the same width.

i don't see why you are saying that it doesn't give you any off-road advantage.  a truck with the same size lift, tires, and width, one witha flexy suspension and one with a stiffer suspension.  the flexy one will perform much better off-road and would be less likely to roll.  by having more flex you are keeping all four tires on the ground which obviously will give you more traction then only 3 tires.  i don't see how the double shackle made your truck roll.  what did it do?  push your truck over?  even if you had a single shackle i would bet you would have rolled too.  i have rolled my truck many times but it has never been the double shackles fault.  the double shackle isn't like a buggy leaf which can push the shackle down.
