Hello from Idaho
« on: Jan 22, 2007, 09:58:40 PM »
I have just found the forum on this wonderful site. I usually just come and look at products that I wish I could buy. I have an 86 4runner with 4.88s and locked front and rear. Still ifs though so I am still lame. I have some 80 series landcruiser wheels and tires on it. I REALLY need some new tires. I am just looking for a solid axle to do the swap. I also have a parts 4runner that is complete minus the engine which was rebuilt and put in my 86 so if anyone needs some parts let me know. Especially if you want to trade a front axle for something  ;)

:welcome: !! And I thought it was cold here in California!

:worthless:

Besides the SAS, what are your future plans? Any good places to wheel up there?

I would really like to build a cage along with on board air with 37s. I am going to go with a selectable locker up front and keep the detroit in the rear. It already has some bumpers that someone made but it really needs a new front bumper with a winch mount. I really want to go dual cases (have the second case) with 4.7s in at least one case. I am also planning to go with the longfields. I did those in my fj40 and loved them. I don't know what I will do to the engine at this point. I did a 1900 mile round trip to the bay area in california and back to idaho going 80 with 33s and 0 problems. I don't know how well it will do with 37s but of course I won't be planning on doing any long trips.
There are a ton of great wheelin places around here. It seems like I find somewhere new every weekend that I go out. I have done some winter wheelin lately that was really good but would have been better if I had better tires. I am really looking forward to building this 4runner. I am really liking the variety of options compared to those of the cruisers (especially the cost).
And yes it is VERY cold. Last week it was staying well below zero. I couldn't believe how well the 4runner started and ran in that super cold weather. I even went wheeling with another 4runner when it was 25 below zero. It was great until I got stuck and had to go out in the cold :(
I'm actually trying to get this ready for the rubicon for the summer. Hopefully it will be done enough to go to cruise moab.

Haha that is sooo true. That is just how it was when I was building my fj40. It is never good enough.

Thanks for the welcome! I found a solid axle for around $150 without rotors and hubs. I have heard that the ifs hubs are better anyway and I was planning on going v6 rotors so I don't think that it will be a bad deal. I'm just wondering if I should sell my spare w56 or keep it for a spare to justify buying the axle and some sas stuff.
