installing auto meter oil press gauge... what
« on: Jan 12, 2007, 01:09:11 PM »
ok, so i am installing a new auto meter elec. oil pressure gauge. i have a non SR5 gauge cluster (hence the auto meter gauge installation) so i likely have the sending unit for the dummy light. my question being, if i get the toyota sending unit originally made for the pressure gauge will it read wrong or off on the auto meter gauge or should i use the sending unit that comes with the gauge and find the standard to metric adaptor?

I"d use the SU that Auto-Meter supplied and just re cut the threads on the fitting in the kit. I have the Auto-Meter mechanical OP gauge and the the fitting for the block was so damn close and it being brass I ran the proper die over it and threaded right in. I dont remember of the top of my head what the threads are but IIRC its BSP not metric. I can go look here in a few if you want.

Behind the passenger side engine mount, there's another oil port.  If you can get the right BSP to NPT adapter and 45 degrees, you can extend this port a few inches with a 1/8 npt extension.. Just plug the autometer sender in and have both.

Toyota and GM sensors are not compatible.. At least not in most case - intake air temp, coolant temp, blah blah

dcg- do you remember the size adapter fitting you need to go from the auto meter sending unit to the stock toyota sending unit port?

1/8 BSP to 1/8 NTP- I think summit an jegs both sell the adapter.. Comes with some gauge kits.
