What was the reason you went from an Isuzu Tcase to a toyota in the first place?

SO, put a extra gear box between the trans and transfer case.

Or was it a driver side drop?

I'm right here.

Yes you can convert to diesel and get registered in CA. I don't know the specifics on the conversions that are legal. I would suggest getting in touch with Petroworks, they have done several VW conversions in Samurai's and made them legal.

You could do this, 4.3 GM with an auto trans then mount your Toy tcase through an adaptor just like some do on Toys. That would eliminate the need for it to be divorced and then you wouldn't need the intermediate shaft.

Or even a 3.8 Buick with TBI would work.

Even though you want to keep the Amigo thing going, I think you would have a much better time with a Toyota truck or Runner. You would not have near the trouble setting it up and you really need a longer wheelbase anyway.

i would do this, in fact, some th350/400 older 2 or 3 spd autos, are very short, so they wont take up that much space- i bought aaron his 92 blazer with a 4.3/700r4/np23? for 280 dollars-it cost me another 500 to get it registered so i could drive it to him-but you probably wouldnt need to do that

keep lookin, sweet stuff will pop up sooner or later

yes you could, i have, so has aaron, there are rules, but in the end, you have to referee it, and  he calls it in the end

do you have family in nevada oregon washington? or blingin xj?
you could just "sell "it to them and plate it in another state
my crazy subaru is registered in nevada ;)

I decided against the diesel.  The whole reason for the 22RE conversion is so that I don't have to deal with the Isuzu engine/trans and try create/have made gears and adapters for it.  Besides, if I go Toy I can get a crawler :drooling: Naw ain't got family out of the state.

Like Glen said, it would have been too long with the 4wd trans and the transfercase, and there were other reasons, I'm gonna have to read up on my Amigo thread to remember :thud: :headshake:

There wasn't a way to get the 2wd trans to bolt up to a transfercase, hence the intermediate shaft.  You saw how short my rear driveshaft is, there ain't no adding nothing, I gotta eliminate before I can go with anything else.  At least with the 22RE I can have a 4wd transmission, married tcase, and eventually either stack it or just stick to gears.

And I'm gonna steer clear of the 6 cyl's and chevys :disturbed: One of my advantages is that my rig is lightweight I'd like to keep it that way as much as possible :crossed:

:OH :hyper:  OH :hyper:  i was looking for some GMC parts today  and found a early 80's  Isuzu 4x4 pickup  with the DEISEL

:woohoo:

i can probably get the hole  engine tranny and tcase for 200  :disturbed:

Get the whole thing and ship it out to me  , I'd gladly build one of those

You can convert gas to diesel in cali, and from what I've heard, it's not even that big of a pain in the ass.  I know a guy on toyotadieselmadness.com has/had a tacoma he swapped a 2lt into and got it cali registered.

I know I would have an easier time with a Toyota pickup or runner.  But I LOVE my Amigo  I'd just as soon swap the body over to a Toy frame just to keep the Migo look.  However, I've already started on it the way it is and I think I'm gonna do what I can with the Migo frame and body.  By the time I get done with it that'll be the only thing Amigo left in it

Justina, there is a guy that goes by Randii on PBB. He did the first Marlin transmission  to engine swap 8? years ago. I do not know the engine details but it was done. There is a specific bell housing to find. That is all I know.

I do have a 4.3 for sale in the for sale section here. I'll make ya a screamin deal.

Let me know.

Thanks Scott,

I've been in touch with Randii on the PBB (I have a thread over there as well) and we've been chatting budget ways of resolving.  Still trying to keep with the 22RE or 2.6 :disturbed: Been real busy though so I haven't had much time to work on this... but I got the Ford on the road so now I am in no hurry.
