Topic: 4runner body swap 91 onto 85 frame?

ok like the topic says were getting ready to do a body swap taking a 91 22re body and putting it on an 85 22re 4runner frame.. is this basicly a direct swap? i know the efi systems are alittle differant but can we use the harness from the 91 4runner on the 85 motor or do we have to swap harnesses to? any info appriciated

Very doubtful that it's a direct swap. Swapping bodies like this is going to be a lot of work (as in a pain in the ass) Are you doing the swap so you can get the solid axle? Or is it a motor issue?

i dont think any of the sencond and 3rd gen body mounts are gonna line up, but good luck with the swap, make sure the wheelbase is the same too, is it a 2 or 4 door runner?

no he wants to swap it because for some reason he likes the gen3 body style more then the old 4runner.. i personally wouldn't do the swap i just wanted to know if anyone has done it and how much work it will be? its a 4 door

I'd just SAS the newer one and call it good. It would be a lot easier than swaping bodies.

heres the problem with that.. he is getting just the 4runner body from a buddy, the 91 4runner was in an axcident and the frame is toasted but the body is straight.. so all he gets is the body? im just trying to save him alot of hassle/time/money so if anyone has done this swap or has seen one with any info would be great

my buddy did one a 93 4 runner body on a 88 long bed ext cab, not sure what all he did but he had it done in a week all after work and sat, sun, and i do remember he did have to change the motor harness. I say let him go for it, oh yeah he had to cut a different hole in the floor for the shifters some thing was different,

I have a '90 4runner shell/frame if he is close to NE PA he can take.  Would need new motor mounts welded up for a 22re (it's a 3.0 now) but it would be alot less work than installing at least six new body mounts and all the other clearance problems to swap onto an '85 runner frame.  Then if he still wants the solid acle he can always swap that in later.
