we talked about this in the past,  and after seeing Car's   it  came back to my mind.   This  would be such a exciting  road  to travel into our countries past.  Maybe a MarlinCrawler Roundup - 66   :eyebrow: or MCR5 and a half :cheese:

we would either start in or around StLouis,  since no one wants togo to Chicago  :yikes: ,  or  start in Cali,   having some side trips to wheelin  places along the way

and hopefully by the time we can do this gas will come down and my  funds  will be  ALOT better.

maybe late spring 2008  :dunno:

i have been thinking of some kind of cross country expedition. It could be somewhat like the 4 wheel parts run perhaps but not as extreem.

So, essentially MWM, what you are saying is I have one year to get my rig running all reliable like cause this is a no-tow-rig-allowed type of deal?

Send Mark, I may need help.  FedEx him to Wichita pls.

we will need to  research to find  some  OHV parks  or  other places to have some fun along  the way

and what landmarks we want to visit  along the way  like  on the movie "Car's"  old  motels  and  old  ODD stuff  like the Cadilacs  in Texas  :eyebrow:

I see in the emails and in this thread...what is the "Cars" that keeps being mentioned?

Abnormaltoy, it's a Pixar movie and it is VERY well done. It seems like the type of movie people either love or don't like much.
I really love it, and the scenery is really done so well. You need to check it out.

But it is something Mark and I have talked about doing, without "support vehicles"
Why support vehicles? Not that there wouldn't be offroading for but the trip is about the fun of driving Rt. 66.
Whose going to drive support vehicles? I don't want to be in the LBC when I can be in the Mammoth cruising Rt. 66. That's the whole idea.
Besides, I don't know how much of the real Rt. 66 something like the LBC could actually traverse.
But then again. If you drive from St. Lou, to Cali, or somewhere within a weeks time or so, you still have to turn around and come back.
I don't know, the logistics are kind of daunting.

I hope you weren't thinking more then that.
You actually think people are going to have more then, at the most, two weeks vacation?
It will be hard enough finding people that can even take that much time.

:psss: and do you really think gas is going to come down? We'll be lucky for it to remain even as unreasonable as it is.

Lady Di

We go as far as we can go in 5 days, and then we turn around and come back.
I say we would need to research the best parts of Rt. 66 to explore. Some will be a lot more interesting then others. Also where there is the most interest of people that would like to give it a go.
I-40 is part of Rt. 66, that would NOT be interesting.

Cars, the newest Pixar movie causes some interest in Route 66. What people might not realize is that most of the movie, including characters, cars, places and the plot itself were based on real people and places along Route 66.

Maybe I am a little jaded over the years, but the Route 66 carnival that comes through SB each year is just that, a "carnival" with all of the trappings. 4X4s are not welcome. :blah: I like the idea of exploring the route, traveling the abandoned roads etc.  I can do without the cotton candy and open header night. :hammerhead:
