« on: Dec 29, 2006, 07:41:00 PM »
well, i know its not a wheeler, but all my marlin buddys might like to see whats going on in the mad scientists garage

i am swapping in a 4 cam sti motor into my 94 legacy sedan

hopefully tripling the horsepower

we where at around 200 before, and now we are aiming at 550-600

i got the motor on a crate this afternoon, here it is, as well as before pics

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

1- 550-600 hp is in your dream !! Sorry

2- your engine , is a JDM WRX 1993 or 1997 !!!  STI have all red intake !!
S
3- WRX JDM have around 260 hp and STI 280 hp !! No more !

I modify Subaru all day long , and I never saw 500 hp whitout put over 25 000$

Good luck

WRX engine 1993-97

STI engine 1993-97

1998-2000 WRX or STI ( Intercooler is straight )

this is a base, it will be getting forged internals, being strocked, balanced, have head work done, ported and polished, ect. i know what im getting into as far as cost, and i am compying part for part a build that has been dynoed at 547 horse-so i dont think that im too far off in my goals

also i got a buildsheet from the company i got the motor from, and its out of a 2002-2004, not a 90something

i too build subarus allday long, i too have done my homework, and i have personally done this exact build before with close to the same results (495 hors at the crank) in a 95 impreza

i apreciate your enthusiasm, but please dont come onto this site and pick fights, i dont think that anyone will tolorate that

I think we had an issue with this before with Jimbo's old truck, as well as Wa4x4's WRX.  Because its not a wheeler it doesn't belong in a wheeling board's projects and buildup, so it gets moved to chitchat.  :dunno:  I beleive that is how it was decided.  :dunno:

  looks freakin awesome dan, looks like another good build to follow.

A build is a build and it is 4wd/Awd. Shouldn't have to hunt through the rest of the site to find a build.

Cool project!

I was about to state the same thing fireball said, AWD/4wd makes it KINDA into a wheeler haha.  It is a build though and it would be nice to not have to dig through all the chit chat stuff but it's the mods choices and I agree.  What do you think this will run in the 1/4 dan?

i dunno...its a guess, i do know that with no interior, spre, ect-and at 18psi, i ran a 13.38 with the original motor, not bad for a family car w/ 4 doors and a 4cyl.

im guessing that it will be about 12??

I figure it would be faster than 12's.  I mean stock sti's with around 300hp run low 13's, sti's arent super light either.  I know hp doesn't translate to quarter times but I just thought it would run 11's or so.  12's is not slow however.  My truck feels fast running high 14's so I can only imagine what a 12 second car feels like.
