pinion bearing
« on: Nov 30, 2006, 05:05:18 PM »
I am setting up 85xtracabs third member he just bought it has 5.29s gears  and was out of 91 4runner  v6. but when i looked at it the gear pattern was a little off so i decided that i would set it up better than it is now. i need to change the pinion depth so i pressed the pinion gears off and am going to hone them out so the slip on and off the pinion easy so i can find the correct shim then replace those bearings with new ones  What i was wondering is if stock gears use a slightly different than aftermarket gears  like the I.D. of the bearing  was off . It has koyo bearings in it today at work i tried crossing those koyo bearing numbers and they didn't work. so i was wondering if you knew any other numbers for both of the pinion bearings because i don't need a whole gear set up kit just both pinion bearings. i think the gears are precision gears just wondering where i could find just a set of those with out the install kit

i was also wondering what a good starting point would be for the thickness of the shim should be i pulled out 2 that combined were .067 which seems like a lot i was thinking more in th .030 range.
