got stuck in the snow today. went up the hill and came back down sliding, and would like to know what to do in that situation?

I'm not a snow wheeling expert, but I can provide some advise.

Before starting your trip in the snow make sure you air down your tires. The air pressure in your tires probably matters more on snow than any other surface. The lower you go the better as long as you don't lose the bead.

It sounds like you tried to climb a hill, failed to reach the top, and came sliding back down the hill? Once traction is lost there isn't much you can do but try and avoid running into things. This is the downside to snow and why I don't like wheeling in the mud...I prefer to be in control and sometimes that simply doesn't happen in snow. If you keep your wheels turning/spinning you can help avoid having the tires grab and rolling you over if you get sideways on the hill. Just try to keep it straight and avoid running into stuff.

when in doubt, throttle it out lol

what kind of tires u running? that makes a big diff.....

u did lock hubs in 4wd right?

Momentum is key, wheel spin often only cause the tires to dig holes. Staying on top of snow is a balanced "art" that can only be learned from experience. I've got a ways to go.

Those tires should do okay in the snow. So then yea, air down your tires to like under 10 psi (what size wheels u running?) and hit it with speed. Installing a locker or two wouldnt hurt either

mckenzie... too much gas will hurt you because youll break the tires loose then lose all your traction so depending on how steep it was... get a bit of a run at it and hit about 4low 2nd gear so you have good momentum and just dont let out of it... as far as sliding down backwards... jam it in reverse as best and quickly as you can and use the gas to steer it back and forth... ill show you sometime... and get some goodyear mt/rs

The best advise for wheeling in the snow is bring a jacket and figure it out as you go. Nobody can tell you how to drive.

1st try airing down
2nd try johns idea
3rd put in a locker or dual cases and locker
or all of the above!

I am not a snow driving except I am just sharing my experience in being stuck in it and not having the right tools to make getting un-stuck allot easier. If you are coming right off the highway or traveled a good distance to go play in the snow try really really hard and wait for your tires to cool down before you go. Get and use a set of tire chains, air down but not to much when your using chains, add a decent amount of weight in the back of your rig. "Bring a shovel" tow strap or tow chain, some wood like a couple of 2x4s, cinders, sand, kitty litter or anything that won't dissolve when it gets wet and is not bad for the environment. You might want to pump some fresh grease in your grease fitting when you are done playing in the snow. Other than that lock'em if you got'em and have fun and be safe.

air down air down air down. nothin like mashin through 3 feet of powder with 3 psi. other then that make sure you are in the right gear, and when you start to get stuck stop and back up.
