The Gene Kruppa Story

was on HBO tonight.
I posted it in the shoutbox and no one had heard of him.
I come from a long line of jazz musicians and Gene Kruppa was a household name.
Am I the only one?
I know we have  lot of musicians here, jazz can't be that lost.

i listen to some jazz, but that name sounds very vaguely familiar..... i more of listened to bb king sort of stuff

it is also very possible i have heard his stuff or know someone who knows his stuff..... i did used to work for a band......

If you know who Gene Krupa is, you know who he is.
He was a drummer. Buddy Rich is another name that would ring a bell.

when I was a kid my mother and aunts and uncles would take us to this bar down the shore in NJ where they would let us in and they had this 'Gene Krupa/Buddy Rick' drum off.. or whatever you might call it. A couple guys doing the best of each.

I think of him as more swing than jazz. A very real original.

Beat me daddy, eight to the bar...sounds kind of kinky in today's lingo, but he carried the beat of the swing era!

...of Commander Cody and the Lost Airmen fame? I know BMD,ETB, but wasn't aware of who the drummer was.
