Finished the rebuild last week, got the engine into my 84 4Runner that I'm swapping to EFI.  I tried for 30-45 mintues on Saturday, cranking it to get it started and no go.  I tried again yesterday with my dad holding the flapper door for the AFM open and still no dice.  We left the truck in the garage and he came out later and there was a huge puddle of gas on the floor.  The charcoal canister was completely full of gas and running over the top.   I cracked the gas line at the cold start injector and had fuel pressure at the injector. We're kinda out of ideas.  We had spark.  Coil was working.  :headscratch: :headscratch:  :dunno:

Any ideas?  We still need to set the engine timing but was hoping to get it running to time it.  Also, we took the spark plugs out and spun the motor over to build oil pressure, we never saw any pressure on the autometer gauge?  Is that a problem??

Is cranking the motor over for 30-45 mintues bad?

With gas, I doubt it.  Plugs were bone dry.

I had the vent and the return lines hooked up wrong on the carcoal canister.  I also figured out what the problem was.  We weren't getting any power to the fuel pump and I found a connector that wasn't plugged in all the way.  Connected it and fuel pump started making some noise  :smack:

The pump worked after I plugged the harness connector fully together and the motor fired right up.  I worded that last post weird.  When I said, made some noise, I meant it worked and started pumping.

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike
