I'm just about 30-45 min south of Popular Bluff we should wheel sometime. Check out this link. http://bricks4x4farm.com/ Bricks would make for a good day trip but if you are a little more hardcore then Flat Nasty would probably suit you more. I still havent been to Bricks but I want to go check it out.

snakeeyes, I havn't seen ya around.  Whats your truck look like?  I'm a bought 9 miles from Cape, the big town of Gordonville.  Gittinit, their aint much wheeling around, just a few farmboys that get together to play in the Mud.  Mud is not my first choice, I hate working under trucks, with dirt in your eyes.  I've kinda out-grew that.  I really like the wooded trails with the loose gravel hill climbs and rock.  Flat Nasty looks perfect to me. We use to wheel at a place near Shannondale, MO. very close to Flat Nasty.  Now they only allow ATVs.  The place had some nice hill climbs, and the night rides were the best.

I'm with ya on the bad weather.  Locked front and rear is no good on ice and snow.  Going straight is nooooo problem, turning on the other hand....thats the tricky part!
The first week in March sounds good to me, 3rd or 4th.  Snakeeyes maybe we could meet in Cape and head down to Bricks.

Snakeeyes, I see you were from Rifle,CO.  I was just out there in October.  What is the name of the cliff that has the trail going up it (I think it was Roan or some thing like that).  Best I can remember, it was between Rifle and Parachute.  We came in from Cow Creek,  just west of Rio Blanco.  We were heading south and ended up above the city of Rifle.  Saw some cowboys driving cattle down the narrow cliff road.  That trail probably wouldn't have seemed so narrow if we wasn't in a Ford super-duty.  Dad said if we ever made it down...that was one road he would never see again. :yikes:  You guys have some of the best trails around.  We were out there, scouting for deer season.  I can't believe how bad the oil company's have made access to the roads.  We  were trying to get to hunters creek, we use to hunt somewhere around there.  Only open road we could find around there was to big jimmy gulch.  We decided to go down to Montrose in unit 62.  I have got to take the 4runner there!  Have you ever been to Moab?  I never knew it was that close.  Looks like it is only 2 maybe 2.5 hours away.

Then you should come down here and play. Locally there are some good climbs and crevices to play in. Here is a link to my rig gallery posts complete with lots of pics.

I am driving an 87 toyota regular cab short bed sitting on an 83 longbed frame...  It has 7" of lift with 35x12.50s.  It is grey with a big punisher skull on the hood...

I'm from Reynolds county, I was just in Cape Girardeau going to SEMO, ect.  I know there are still alot of good places to wheel in Reynolds county, down on the Black River.  They have been closing alot of roads or purple painting them, but for now I know alot that are still open in that area.  I'm actually building a trail down near Ellington on our family's ranch...

I'm thinking...  If we had a 4x4 club...  We could work on finding a few regular trails or areas to wheel.  There is National Forrest land and other parks and public land to use in the area with existing trails.  Possibly even getting permission from landowners in the area to use the existing roads and trails.  I know alot of the landowners put up gates or purple paint the area off to keep people from dumping trash and tearing up the area, ect.  I would like to get out and start driving and mapping the trails that I already know of to see which ones are still open, conditions, ect...  It would be cool to start putting together a data base and make it available to local club members...

I think a club is a great idea.  The only clubs remotely close are for the "jeep thing"  and I don't "want" to understand!  Gettinit, I would love to come down to your neck of the woods.  My kinda wheelin'

I think we should get a trail ride going, and decide on a name, when we are all together.  If we could set a date for a trail ride, we could see how many are interested.  To have enough people, we need to open it up to neighboring states.  I know there are a lot of wheelers in AR,IL,KY,TN,and MO.  It would be great to have use all get together. :beerchug:

That sounds great but in one state alone its hard to get most of a group like this together, much less all. Not many of us are willing or able to make lengthy trips once a year if that. I have been blessed and have been able to make 3 trips of 400 miles round trip ea. There are many opprotunities to travel but the logistics are far fetched to assume that it can happen often. if you are interested in traveling some then keep a watch for some soon to come wheeling trips to Flat Nasty or Hot Springs OHV Park, or even Kentucky. I will be traveling to FlatNasty in July and probably Hot Springs this spring. I also want to get a small group to join in wheeling with me here this spring.

No offense but you don't seem to know anything about off road clubs. A multi state club will not work. You would have a hard enough time getting people from the same county together.

No offense taken.  I really don't know anything about off road clubs. I just thought it was a good idea.  I am just starting to get into 4wheeling.  I mainly ride 4 wheel drive ATVs.  My friends and I have made trips to IL, KY, WV,and CO with our ATVs.  We have a lot fun, and there seems to be a larger group every trip we make.  If you have never been to WV, on the Hatfield McCoy trails, I highly recommend it.   They have some extreme trails, the best I've been on.  Some of my friends have chosen to buy Yamaha Rhinos.  They are a great machine, and useful around the house.  I can't see spending $9,000 on a Rhino.  I can spend half that, on a very capable Toyota, and bring my wife and daughter if they want to go.  I understand the popularity of the utility side by sides.  Anybody with a small truck can tow them anywhere.

I can see your point...trying to finding the time off,  cost, travel involved, and a lot bigger toys to haul.  Distance and cost would be a huge factor.  I have met a lot of nice folks, while riding ATV over the years.  I'm sure the offroad community will be the same.

$ locked up 4wd truck will go alot more places than any atv, just ask the owner of the one I towed up the hill at hotprings. The 4 wheeling community is better in my opinion. I rode atvs for a few years and feel alot more comfortable with the offroading  4wd types. :twocents:
