i'm debating on these lockers...
- ARB Locker
- Detroit Electric Locker
- OX Cable locker
it'll be used on a dana60 rear axle... which one do you all prefer and why...

I used an Eaton ELocker in my 60 and was happy with it.  I didn't use it for very long before I sold the rig, but it seemed to do just fine everytime I used it.  I was going to go ARB but I didn't have air at the time so and I wanted to save a few bucks and skip the compressor.

come on fellas... no one knows anything about these lockers :hammer:

i dont have any experience  with these, but  i would have to vote for the ARB

'99 SR5/TRD Tacoma w/5vzfe. SAS'd with 64" diamond axle (w/ long superset & ARB). about 5" of lift, 305/75 x16 BFG KM1's. Soon to come: 1.5" more lift (6.5"), 35 to 37" tire, undecided at this point., 63" F/F diamond rear, Marlin 4.7 tacobox.

if u run on the street, the detroit will wear the tires faster than the other 2, but is probably the most reliable
i've seen a lot of air leaks on the arb's in dana axles (i've had one in my toy fr axle for a few years and haven't had any problems, but obviously the axle doesn't turn often).....don't know if u still have to notch the main caps on the danas also to get the airline in
i've never owned an oxlocker, but the one i remember seeing had problems w/engagement of the locker
i don't know anyone that's used the auburn or eaton, but i personally would check in to availability of an eaton e-locker (not sure if they have them for 60's), unless it was trail only, then i would just use a detroit or possibly even a spool since rr axle

I love mt TACO E-Lockers.  They work great for me and I love the selectibility.

not a fan of the air or electric actuated lockers, never had one so take it for what its worth. See people (couple this weekend as a matter of fact) having trouble with ARBs not engaging cause of broken lines leakes etc. and imagine the same is possible with the electric lockers, broken wires shorts or whatever.  Another vote for a spool in the rear

I have  Dana 60 in rear with ARB.  No problem.  Just have it install correctly.  Lock rite in front.  I wish I did ARB

I've actually heard good things aboutthe cable actuated ox locker, don't have any personal experience with them though.  Everyone I know has had some sort of problem with their ARB, usually a leaky line.

Hey folks, I have another question now that we're on the topic of lockers.

Anyone know what the difference is  between a Lock Right Locker for a 4 cyl and a 6 cyl? I have a 6 cyl 88 4Runner and I have a line on a 4 cyl locker, but I am making sure that they will fit.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks
MIKE

TheBandit

the V6/Turbo diff is quite a bit different. I would not expect a lunchbox locker to be interchangeable, but it's been a while since I've seen the insides of a V6/Turbo diff.

I believe they will work.  You might e-mail somebody at Marlin to make sure though.

I do not have experience with any of these lockers. But If I had a Dana Axel equip vehicle I would have to go with OX lockers.  The reason why I like them over the ARB or Electric lockers is it looks easier to install, no drilling in to the Axel housing and biggest reason for me is the Ox is a all "mechanical locker" they use no electricity ,electric motor or air compressor to activate them and to keep them activated. The only down side I see to Ox lockers is they do not make them for Toyota axel's and trying to find a place to mount the shifting levers. Other than that no air leaks no shorts and no blown fuse to deal with.  I wish Ox would make lockers for Toyota Axel's

There are cable conversions for the E-Lockers to make them mechanical.

toynorcal

I have seen a mix on all of these lockers. Air leaks, electrical, and util MCR5 I would have flat out suggested the cable locker but one of my buddys was running one in his Jeeps front diff and it kept popping out on him. It was easy enough to fix, he just looked at his drinking buddy and said "hold that", but it was a hassle none the less.

Got another vote here for a spool...less expensive and least likely to break on you

Destruct O

Spools and lunch box lockers are ideal nothing coming out of the Axel that can break off. The down side to them is if you use your rig as a Daily Driver and the ratcheting that occurs in the corners. I do not know if this ratcheting will cause any damage.

Would it be possible to upgrade the air lines of an ARB to eliminate leaks?  I mean would it be possible to route the air lines with, say, steel brake lines and use flared ends and fittings and stuff to make it more reliable?

i beleive that it is usually the seals and o-rings, compressors, solenoids, etc that fail not the actual airlines

well if your going to dd it like i do with mine i have a full detriot in the back learn how to drive it on the street and you wont get that bad of tire wear, but a spool there is no learning is always turning you know. but if you want to spend some money go with an arb, a leaky oring or something is know big deal you know, but if you want reliabiltly a detroit if not that then at last get a spool
86' yota, extra cab, duals, HP frnt with detroit 4.88s, V6 rear with detroit 4.88s, bobby super set, driveline tech dl's, neat lil upgrades on the way can someone say 4link and dovetail front...

I have a friend that has Detroit Lockers and they are the best for trial use. But they eat tires if your rig is used as a DD.  I wouldn't use ARB I have heard they have a lot of problems and break a lot.  Another one of my friends has these and they couldn't go whellin Memorial Day weekend because their lockers were having problems.

i recently  drove around with my elocker locked,  and i would NOT want to do that at all  on a daily basis

the elocker only requires  electric  to change,  doesnt require  electric  to stay locked or unlocked,  so once it is switched to the lock position  you can tear the wires all off,  and it will stay locked,  just wont be able to unlock it  till its rewired

Well ARB makes a heavy duty air line you can buy. I have ran my arb in the front for about 8 months or so now and havent had any porblems with the locker itself, mostly my oba but once i got it all set up right its great to have. I would only run it in the front though. Main reason is if my oba dies then i wouldnt have any lockers if i had them f/r. I run the aussie locker in the rear, so even if my oba dies i still have a rear locker.  Air the 2.5 gal tank up in the morning, run the trail all day turning locker on/off without the compressor coming back on. I dont know about a 60 though
