Marlin Crawler Rock Sliders
« on: Sep 02, 2006, 11:31:03 AM »
does anyone have these. i am looking for some for my 88 4runner. and these are $135. 1 3/4" X .120 HREW tubing and have 6 pre-notched legs to weld to the slider itself and then to the frame. my 1st question is are these worth $135? from what i have heard is that dom tubing costs more. but i am alittle weary of having someone weld these to my frame. are their any bolt on opition available for 1st generation 4runners? or should i just get DOM sliders??? i am mainly getting sliders for side impact protection during wheeling and normal driving. welding to the frame kinda scares me because their aint to many choices i have around here when it comes to welding work and dont want my frame to be ruined. what signs should i look for after someone welds on the frame if i go this rought to make sure they havent weakened the frame?? thanks please reply

yes they are worth the $135, I can almost gurantee you'll pay more then that even if you build them yourself. IF you want a bolt on option why dont you get some 1/8" flat bar, drill a few holes and bolt it up. Just weld the tubing to the plates. You can also do a "C channel" design where 1 bolt holds pressure against the frame.

When I did my own sliders on my 88' I just welded them to the frame and had no trouble, they were very sturdy and took a hard beating without any breakage. If your not a welder things to look for is a weld that has good penetration into the metal and looks consistant. Imagine a stack of quarters that fell over and are stacked along one another, thats what a weld should look like.

Couldn't even write a new post...just cut and paste same thing over on Pirate.  No search, no FAQ...sigh.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5
