Looking good.   This will be the next major mod I do.

For the aluminum radiator, you said 3.0.  is that factory or an after market aluminum 3 row?

I have a link to a great radiator that both me and Dave are running that has done a wonderful job of cooling down my 3RZ.

yep its an ebay rad, scored it for 165$ free shipping, just a replacement for 3.0 , although i am also running a factory 3.0 rad in my 85 with a 22re too.

well the motor swap is pretty much complete minus exhuast, runs good but i havent even drove it yet so idk if itll stay running.

i have a few days to to finish up all the little things and then its off to MCR

i also did the 10k ohm resistor mod to the tach board and bam its works like a charm. super easy mod

well luck would have it just as i finish up the exhaust and get ready for the 1st test drive the motor develops a miss in cylinder #2 after getting up to op temp,

code P0302

figure i would try and drive it anyways to come to find out the clutch isnt working right, it was drving as if i have my foot halfway into the clutch pedal, would rev really quick and hardly move and i smelt burning clutch, something was up,

so tonight i dropped the tranny

and not surprised i had a suspicion it was the throwout bearing and forsure it was it, turns out the company i got the clutch from sent me the throwout bearing for a 5vz v6 rather then the 3rz, so pissed but its out and i hope tomorrow i can find a 3rz one so i can still make MCR,

comparison of the old 22re throwout and the 5vz, the 3rz one looks more like the 22re one, man i shoulda checked before but ive been in a rush to finish this

Truck made it through MCR just fine,
besides smashing the rear driveline  and not being able to drive over 50mph home because of it being so bent and the motor only running on 3 cylinders the whole time it was a good trip!

got to meet alot of new members this year too. be back out there next year forsure hopefully with the truck fully dialed in.

my pics are posted in here

well i finally decided to do something with this turd and wanted to see why i had no compression in cylinder #2,

heres the results haha

by the way getting the head off a 3rz is a betch since you have to remove the cams.

still had decent power with that cracked/burnt up valve haha

Yikes I can't believe it was even putting power to the wheels with a valve that bad.  :yikes:

My 98 taco has 350k on it 40psi of compression on 1 cylinder and 65 on 3. Still runs, just weak. No smoke no oil consumption. Now the heads cracked ans it used coolant but in a pinch it could get you somewhere lol rz is a tough engine.

not just the RZ. i bought a t100 with 366k on it and it was using some coolant. did the comp test and it was 175-180 across the board. the coolant leak turned out to be a crack in the head behind the exhaust valve on the pass bank.  not bad for 366k on the stock engine!

people always talk about the reliability of the 22r/re but i think the rz and 5vz have the 22r/re beat.

yea i had no idea it was that bad, i suspected a valve but still it ran and idled good for the first start then after it warmed up it ran like :pokinit: and im still surprised it made the trek all the way to MCR wheeled it hard then all the way back home.

30 psi was the reading in cylinder #2 the rest had good numbers.

now its time to slap on the 2rz head i pulled off that motor i had sitting and see how it works with the 3rz.

i got no $ to fix the 3rz head.

but yea like stated these motors are solid and tough but the valves are the weak point which is what i hear like 22r/re's and their timing chain guide problems

You can't even call them the weak point. People just don't do the scheduled checking of the tolerances and the adjustments. Here is a perfect video showing how easy it is:

I couldn't find a green/blue wire on any of my plugs , yea I guess ors forgot to wire it in lol , mine might be different since it's a 3rd gen, maybe different color wire

The color of plug that originally plugged into the Ecu is blue , has 4 wires, black, two brown, and red with white stripe

Shouldn't you just be able to locate a diagram for your ecu pinout. Find the vss pin. Pin a wire into that location on your olug, it should be empty, and then just plug that wire into the back of your plug on your speedo that feeds the speed sensor? My 82 was labeled on the back, I don't have a 3rd Gen one here to check, but I bet they are also labeled.

For the stop switch, you should just be able to tap into the brake pedal switch, right? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok so here's the update , called ors , turns out my vss is hooked up , we checked it and it's there , they said I could be getting the code since my speedo isn't giving off a clear signal as it jumps around til about 20 mph then evens out and with a 22re it wouldn't care as long a signal is received but with a rz it's more sensitive and that speedo jumping could cause a misread , I was advised to hook up a fancy obd2 scanner that'll read speed and see if my speedo is giving off a singnal at all
