I love timing chains!
« on: Aug 10, 2006, 11:20:11 AM »
I put a new timing chain in my 87 runner (22re) last night, when i started it it the tensioner went soft and chain is loose as hell. I put in an new timing kit with a lc adjustable gear, tensioner was fine when installed. I have pulled the v/c back off and tried to move the plunger in and out, it will move but still wont pump up. This is not my first timing chain install, so it is installed correctly. Any ideas of what would cause this or ideas to fix it, before i tear it back apart. Thanks

a small bit of sludge  clogged the tiny port for the oil to flow to the tensioner

Hate it when that happens.

Remember to seal the threads of that top oil pump bolt or it will probably seep oil.

The double roller is the only way to go especially if you have a bigger than stock cam.

I just did the doubler roller in my truck. If you don't have any boggered threads you should be all gravy. If i told you guys how much i got the kit for with metal guide, Everyone would crap their pants, and no they weren't crappy american knock off's. Gotta love working as a parts guy at stealership!
