Help with clutch noise and fork
« on: Jul 31, 2006, 08:46:42 PM »
When I installed my Marlin w56b I also put in a centerforce dual friction and the throwout bearing made a grinding noise when the pedal was pushed in and did it a little when the clutch was out.My wife went out to drive it and the clutch pedal went to the floor and the fluid was all over the street.I noticed that the slave rod was all the way out holding the clutch ingaged.I also noticed that the master cylinder was leaking a bit so I replaced both.I bleed everything and the pedal felt good, then the pedal started kind of a pop half way down, then there was no pedal pressure and the new slave rod had stuck out again.I tapped it and it went back in.There was still no pressure at the pedal. As my wife was pumping the pedal for me to rebleed, it popped out again and shot fluid all over and I noticed that the piston was all the way out and the seal was hanging out. What would cause this?I am at my wits end! Also, is the pivot ball in the bell housing supposed to be adjusted?Mine is screwed all the way in and the fork has a lot of play.

? what t/o bearing are you using. what year toy, and trans. there are like 3 diffrent t/o bearing early up to 87, then 1 piece to 93, then a similar after that with a longer bearing, i did run in to 1 v-6 that the bellhousing was about a 1.5 in. longer than others, but the noise u could be hearing could be the t/o hitting the weights, and over extending you,r slave could be a short t/o bearing.

I've also seen the throughout bearing put on backwards too. It will slip in between the fork causing this exact problem.
Good luck, hope it's something simple

you can pull the fork boot off and look in the bellhousing. a mirror helps.

Well I got it apart today and I think I put the throwout bearing in backwards. There are some score marks on the fingers of the pressure plate but not too bad. Can you tell by looking at the bearing if it's on backwards? There is also wear marks on the ends of the fork so I will be replacing that too. That bearing only ha about 1,500 miles on it too.

I picked up my new fork, throwout, and clip today but I want your opinions on this bearing. It is one piece with the hub instead of having to be pressed on and the clip isone piece too instead of the 2 little paperclip looking things I took off. Do these look right? I got'em from Toyota.

fork goes between the throwout bearing and the tranny,  round DONUT looking part of throwoutbearing goes to clutch

Thanks, I know how it goes, I was just double checking if this style would work as it's not like the old stuff. I will have it on the road tomorrow. It's been 3 months since it broke and I'm wanting to go 4 wheelin so I am getting it done now.

Well I got it fixed! It is much quieter and I forgot how powerful this thing is. I just did a big burnout with it and it doesn't bog at all. I will get video tomorrow. Thanks.
