HELP PLEASE: Can't Get into 2WD; What Wrong??
« on: Jul 16, 2006, 09:17:20 PM »
I am just finishing my 6-month long project.  Rebuilt engine (VW Diesel), rebuilt w56, dual t-cases, rebuilt 4.7 gears in the rear, and a twin stick.

My problem is with the rebuilt t-case and twin stick.  Everything is working fine, except the case will not go into 2wd.  It will shift into 4wd and neutral fine though.  I think my problem may be in the 2wd/4wd shift rail.  The instructions said install "c" clip if the case is 79 to 83, but that the clip is not used on newer cases.  I have no idea the yeat of my cases, as I bought them used.  I installed the "c" clip since I thought I took one off (pretty sure, but I did the rebuilds over about 6 months time).

I pulled the shifter base out, and it looks (hard to see) like the "c" clip hits the case when I slide it into neutral and that is keeping it from sliding back all the way.  I am certain I got the case back together right except for this part since I guessed at the year of my cases.  Does this sound like my problem?  How do I tell what year the case is?  If the flanges haven't been changed out, the front output isd an "H" patern and fits a CV shaft from and IFS truck.

:help:  Thanks guys.   :help:

Never mind, I found the "problem".  Everything was fine after all.  I was thinking there was a "neutral" position on the 2wd/4wd side.  There isn't  :smack:
