I'm getting ready for a night run on the 15th up in Big Bear. I might join the IE4W group as a guest: http://www.ie4w.com/jul_beg_run_details.htm but we might run a smaller group if IE4W's group is 30 or 40 rigs + :conf:
Post up if you are interested. :)

This trip might get cancelled due to the fires in the Yucca Valley area. If the fire heads east, we should be ok. :crossed:

Yup.  I believe that my buddy Jed (Shaun) talked to you today.  Just got my truck back from smog today and had an overheating problem.  I'll be putting in a new radiator in the morning but it should be ready by evening.

I would like to tag along if possible.  Can anyone be a guest with IE4W, just show up?  Are you guys going to run a smaller group?

Last I heard (just a few minutes ago) we are meeting separate from IE4W at the ski rental place right next to the 76 Station in Running Springs at 8:00.  That's T-Minus 1-hour, where are you at??

Fortunatly the fires have skirtted the Big Bear area that they will be going to, they have continued to burn in the eastern edge of the forest. No trails in this area since it is in the preserve area and we are not allowed in there...... oh darn.

Had a great time.  Minor mishap for Shorytt. :yikes:  I have a few more pictures but my hosting site is down and I don't feel like re-sizing everything.  I'll post a couple in case Jim wants to post in the official flop thread.

Is that on Dishpan? I can't tell it is a little dark in the backround. If it is I know where that happened right after a left-hand turn, that ditch almost took out my buddies 4Runner.

Deep Creek.  I was in front of him (in the middle actually) so I went through it before he did.  Came around a bend to find a big rut in the road.  I rember thinking, oh crap, I'm going a little to fast for this, steering hard left to get up on the high side rather than trying to straddle it, then cutting accross still carying some speed.  I think that he was going a bit to slow to cary him through it.  He said it was a pretty slow roll.

Got the rest pics up in this gallery.

We did have a great time! The trail was, I believe 3N16 which is also known as Deep Creek/Dishpan. We started at Lake Arrowhead and went toward Green Valley Lake. Three 4Runners, Howard's 84 was the leader, EarlKann's 85 in the middle and I was the tail gunner. My flop was me talking with my friend Matt who was on his first run. I saw EarlKann finish the rut but didn't realize he was so high. We slid, really slow and flopped.  :smack: The damage wasn't too bad, although, the hard top won't fit.  :outtahere: Time to start on the wana be Canback. 8)

Thanks for the pictures EarlKann.  I hope we can do some wheeling again soon. :)

Yup that is the same spot my buddy almost rolled, he said he came around that corner and there it was and when he dropped in the truck just plain stopped with a big thud and fell in the hole. I guess I need to think about the size of vehicle behind me, I was able to sneak by in my Sammi and didn't think about him having to drop into the hole so I just kept going until the next notch and took the wrong line and ended up perched on top about ready to fall in the even bigger hole to the left which I should have just dived into in the first place. Every time I tried to back up I just slid sideways towards the hole. That one you rolled on just jumps right out at you.

You're right! It did just sort of jump out.  :ack: Even at the time we flopped it upright, it still didn't seem to be much of an obstacle. :hammerhead:

And yes Wayne, and exo is in order. :yesnod:

Here is the same corner from the Nowhitefenders group. They ran the trail in the opposite direction and staddled the crack. :driving:

I don't know if I'd want to run that one in the opposite direction.  Going down some of that stuff that we went up doesn't sound as fun.

It is not that bad going down, I've done that trail many times in different vehicles. Everyone gets all scared dropping over the waterfall but with the right line it is no biggie. I even have a video of me coming down it in my 4Runner, someone was talking to my daughter who was filming it and was telling her I was nuts for going that way.

Night makes everything look different too, my brother broke his Rancho a-arm on John Bull once while he and my other brother took it apart I ran went to Sizzler's in Big Bear to meet my other brother (yes I have several brothers) to get the oem a-arm. By the time I returned  :shhh: (I did have dinner) it had gotten dark and I had to do the backside alone. The shadows that your headlights throw out hide most of the deep holes.

When you get older night runs turn into happy hour, the last time we broke something late we just pitched a tent on the side of the trail and dealt with it in the morning.

We talked about camping out and doing a John Bull run, but with the fire looming we opted for Deep Creek. I hear the fire is finally out. :clap2:
