What gas are you running?

You could have a rich mixture and some carbon buildup in the engine causing it to run on.

You could try running some water in the carb at high rpm to break it up and clean it out.

BE CAREFULL not to pour too much in at once or you could damage your engine.

Most importantly get the fuel mixture right first.

Possibly a carbon build up problem as suggested above.  I recommend using fuel system cleaners, a can of carb cleaner, a full tank of Cheveron Supreme, and SeaFoam.  Water works well too, but if your pistons looked anything like mine, then good luck.  My truck was dieseling before I changed the head gasket, if I layed into the throttle after I cut the ignition.  When the head was off there was a fat layer of carbon on all the pistons, about a 1mm thick, maybe even thicker.  I cleaned them up and it dosen't diesel anymore.

Check your settings, I used to have to adjust mine in the spring and in the late fall.  I would check my timing to my carb adjustments.  Sometimes you have to let the motor idle for a minute before turning it off!  It's time for me to adjust mine too!  The worst thing for me is I drive two miles to work and back.  So, I really have to make an effort to go for a long drive to help clean out the carb and burn out the carbon build up!  Hope this helps!

That's kinda funny, cause I only drive about 4 miles to work, but it's all freeway, so no buildup worries for me.  How high is your idle?  It'll diesel easier if the truck is idling higher too.  If you can't find seafoam you can run by an evinrude/johnson boat dealer and snag a can of engine tuner.  Works pretty much the same.  Warm up your truck, spray this stuff into the carb till the truck either dies or you're nearly out of tuner then have somebody shut it off.  Don't restart the truck for atleast several hours, if not a full day, and you'll see tons of crap come out the exhaust.  I wouldn't recommend this though if you have a cat.

I have a dog, is that ok?  :bolt:

What he means is only in the willamette valley they do DEQ testing, but it's still illegal to take a cat off in the state of Oregon.  A buddy lost his business lic. for working on a rig that he knew the cat was missing!  And he's still paying on the state mandated fines!

my toyota diesels when i shut it off but i figured out a way to not let it chug after its killed. just work on slowly letting out the clutch as your turning the ignition off. and voila' no dieseling
