:rofl2:  You crack me up nate! proabably smarts! I didn't know the hooks rust away, not that you'd want to have a hook lodged in your throat for 7-10 days, but I guess that's better then it never going away.
I gotta admit I am a hypocrite, I do like fresh fish, but just like beef or pork, I don't want to see them alive first.
There was a turkey farm in NJ that we would go to where you could pick your own live turkey and they would fix it up for you. That's as bad as a lobster tank! "Kill that one, thankyouverymuch".
Oh well. PETA = People Eating Tasty Animals

OH yea, proud peta member here!  Salmon is the only fish I catch that I'll eat, and it's not really fun killing them, but it sure leads to a tasty meal.

in Texas we do have a recipe for river carp, not gonna try it on cow pond carp.

1 15# carp butterflyed
1 seasoned cedar plank
1 lbs diced carrots
2 lbs sliced thin potatoes
cilantro and lime to taste
3 cups tabasco
4 tsp course ground pepper
1 tsp cayan pepper

stake out the butterfly'd carp, scale side down
mix seasonings (powder)together and liberally rub the meat
cover with carrots and potatoes
dowse with the tabasco
bake at 375 for 1 hour

remove from oven, remove carp and put carp in the trash (dogs won't eat it)
use a saw and divide the plank into equal portions, serve with the carrots and potatoes
a nice chardonay complements the cedar nicely

enjoy!
Isn't Colorado that cute little state park in north Texas?

Loon Lake had to be poisoned back in the 60's to control trash fish. That also killed off the big browns and rainbows that were in there, too bad, but it had to be done.

Can't remember exactly, but they had to do something similar to lake oroville a couple years back.  Some jackass had released northern pike in the lake and they were spreading.  They had to be 100% sure they had all the pike out of there, cause it's just not pike water, and the lake couldn't support that particular species.  Not sure if they just stunned the fish and held what they could in containment till later, or just took out the whole fish populations.  From what I've heard, years ago f&g was doing some work in trinity lake, shocked the fish and up pops a world record smallmouth bass.  To this day I've recieved no confirmation on this, but have heard it from different sources over the years.
I should be fishing right now, but there's just too much else to do.  I can't believe it's nearly june and I haven't even gone once yet

i think they only did some "controll" in one area of the lake from what i remember.  dont think they poisend anything but just stunned/contained them.   but they didnt spread as bad as the carp did... actually i think there was only a couple instances of the pike..  gotta look that up i cant remember

They're baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!  Went out last night to see if they were there and saw some jaw-dropping monsters, and tons of em!  I threw my line out past a point, got a hit but missed the fish.  Threw it to the same spot, got a hit and had the fish on for a few seconds before losing it again.  Thought there's no way I'll catch it again, threw it out 3rd time and FISH ON!  Just got new 8lb test on my light action setup (don't ask me why I was using light tackle near the carp :shake: ) , whatever it was pulled like a tank and started stripping out line.  I tried walking toward it to take up slack and keep it away from the trees it was headed for then SNAP!  Whatever it was was big and pulled hard.  When I go back I'll be using my salmon rigs :yesnod:  Gonna call my friend and see if he wants to head out with his bow :gap:

I was really hoping to catch catfish but it didn't happen.

I wish I had a place to put em, they're such neat little fish   I was surprised as hell to see them in a creek by where I used to live.  That thing used to get flowing really well in the winter but the little buggers stuck it out.  Small creek but it had trout (probably just a winter thing), bluegill, catfish, squawfish (another trash-fish you kill and chuck in the bushes), small and large mouth bass and seems like something else I'm missing :headscratch:
