I got my intake off of my parts truck to build up my rockcrawler.  Anyways, I need to clean my aluminum intake and have heard hot tanking will ruin the finish.  No big deal if I can paint the intake and valve cover.  What kind of paint?  I was thinking of hammerite, yea or nea?

Thanks again!

I just used regular engine enamel on mine and it worked great

Cool!  Thanks!  I liked the way your stuff turned out.  I hope that mine looks that nice after I'm done.

The paint job quality is all in the prep work and taking your time. So don't rush it and it will turn out well.

i'd use a primer on aluminum, the paint alone doens't seem to stick quite as well(well, unless it's been blasted) as it does to iron.

Preperation is the key to a good paint job. Blasting, etching, priming, etc.

Use an epoxy primer for aluminum and then paint on top of that before it fully cures so you don't have to sand it again.

You can polish it in stages and get pretty good results.Just don't clearcoat anything that gets hot cause they'll turn brown.Good luck.

IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5
