Intake Manifold Carbon Build-up
« on: May 17, 2006, 08:12:34 AM »
I'm currently rebuilding my 22RE and would like to know if any of you guys know a good way to clean the baked on carbon build-up off the inside of the intake manifold.  I got a the loose greasy stuff off, but a lot is still baked on pretty good.

i recently used a drill bit yo kinda break some of it up from the egr ports  then used a bore brush for a 20gauge shotgun to brush it out

I tried Seafoam on some light carbon, kind of scrubbed it with a stiff brush, worked suprisingly well.

I took it to a machine shop and the owner said that the chemicals now a days are a lot weaker than they used to be, thanks to the EPA.  He's recommended glass beading the manifold instead of hot tanking.

Go to the dodge dealer and get combustion chamber cleaner. It foams up and cleans aluminum very well. Run it through the parts washer first though to get most of the loose crap out. Dont get the mopar stuff on your hands though. :turtle:
