I am wanting to tube my 4 runner out and I am at a loss for ideas. I plan to ditch the fenders, doors, the back and most of the top. Later on I am also going to link the front and rear and run air shocks, but that will probably not happen until late summer or fall. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Here is the latest pic I have of it. BTW I plan to use poop pipe because of the cost I really can't afford DOM right now.

quick paint idea, for it with no doors. What size tube you plan on using? 1.75" would be your best bet 1.5" is a little small for exos  :twocents: Price some HREW I think you'll be surprised at how close it is to pipe. Hell I can get DOM here for less than $4 ft.

PS
How do you like those Pitbulls? what size? Buddy of mine wants to run them after being a die hard SX user.

Thanks for the idea  I had planned on using 1 5/8 sc 40. I found some for 88 cents a foot. I'll look into hrew, i hadn't even thought about that. The rockers are 39.5x16.50/17 I havent had them on the trail yet unfortunatelly, hopefully soon though. They actually measure out a true 39.5  I got them because they were a good deal. $1200 for all four wheels and tires and they were new :gap:

$.88 cents a ft? when I built my bumper with pipe it was close to $2 ft. The HREW that I just bought a few hundred feet of was $2.37 ft, DOM was close @ $3.76 ft (both were 1.75x .120)

1 5/8" pipe is going to be like 2" OD, remember, pipe is ID tube is OD. The pipe I used on the bumper was 1 1/4" (ID) and is 1.66" OD, damn close to 1.75" tube but thicker wall.

Nice job on the backhalf, looks good like ORS ( Brian?) runner.

One more thing, if the doors are getting pitched permanently, I'd run some tube from side to side behind the front seats coming off the vertical down tubes thru the cab, with at least a diagonal tube from top to floor.

IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

Yea, that was the plan  I also want to bob the rear and dove tail it. Here is an update pic without the doors to give ya'll a better idea of what I have to work with :gap:

I'm running 60's right now, but if I end up having problems with the rear shafts I have a d70 here I can use or just go with 35 spline shafts in the 60. Yea that was a good deal on the wheels and tires. I found them on Pirate from a guy in Arkansas. He had only put 3 miles on them and decided they were to big for what he wanted

I wish that I could leave it alone, but my kids like going wheelin with me so I need some type of cage incase of a rollover. I figured an exo would be my best bet for safety and to keep the body in decent shape

well if you not rock crawling  and don't need a exo for rocks    I say just go with a roll cage  use the marlin shape  and then run extentions  for the extra seats

Paulie

if i were you id cut right behind the B pillar and make a tube rear/four seater deal. run the air shocks in the rear now while your still in the building stage and get some skins to pertect the little ones
85 SR5, ARBs, Hi-steer, 35" Krawlers...has most of the right parts

That's kinda what I was thinking on caging it. The air shocks will have to wait though, kinda low on cash :help:

Plus they deliver!

My idea.  I like tube doors.  They still allow easy entry and exit and still protect very well.  I took the liberty to bob the bed as well.

looks good. So you think it would be better to leave the body as well?

So, if I leave the body, what do yall think about bobbing and dovetailing it?

FatAzzRunner

Personally, I would only bob it. As wide as you are, your not gonna need to dovetail it unless you WANT to.

I would definately bob it and tube it and be done with it.  I will say that if your feeling is to chop  it up, then do it cause your gonna end up doing it later if that is what your really want.
