hey guys this topic started on another thread and i didnt whant to rob it.

so how did u get ur truck we have that story. thought it would be something to have fun with so go at it guys and gals.

i paid $2800  for my truck 12 years ago or was it 13  
bone stock  but ran like a sowing machine

ha i paid $500 for my truck bone stock about a year and a half ago but the tranny was bad. but ive put like 3 grand+ in my truck

i  was  driving a 85 Dodge Ramcharger ,  drove buy this dealership in Texarkana TX and there it sat way off in the back, the dealer was selling it cause his dad was too old to drive anymore and had hit and killed a horse,  small dent in the fender from the bumper bending back    i made the deal,  and never looked back,  had 170,000  on it then now has 385000

k i got mine this way. well my family and i have been racin toyota corola race cars since i was eight. and i wanted a 4x4 so bad. so i thought i could pick one up and that had no motor or something for cheap. ha little did i know that these trucks didnt run the 2tc hemi engine  :smack:so i looked and looked for and 84 or 85 cause all i knew was i wanted a solid axle. and i liked the 2nd gen bodys. well a few months went by and i couldnt find a decent one. but one day my aunt called me with no knoledge that i wanted a toyota truck but that i just needed a something to drive. but n e ways she asked me if i could feed her friends cats and water thier plats and stuff cause she lived by me. and so i said yes and then she said oh yea they will pay me by sellin me thier truck for cheap $500 bucks then she said that it was a 1984 toya 4wd pickup i dropped the fone and started doin cartwheels haha .but it needed a trany. great man it was destiny. 3k later and more time then i spend with my women . i have the baby that i have today. i love it.

Was looking for a vehicle to start commuting in, but I didn't want to sacrifice 4x4.  I was driving a 1990 dodge ramcharger, that needed something replaced every other week.  Searched the adds for a toyota pickup, finally found mine, several days after it had been posted figured it was gone, but I called the guy, and he said come check it out, there is a person spposed ot be looking at it, but he hasn't shown yet.  Skipped 2 class periods, went and looked at the truck, and bought it   now, 3 years later, 30,000 miles, 3 motors, 2 gearsets, new radiator, and other misc. stuff, she looks better than ever

Well, my Sophomore year I got my 4runner and contemplated doing a SAS on it (I really should have) but I started looking at trucks. I guess it came up in talking to friends and one guy in my sign language class comes up and says "I have an 80 toy for sale, 350 bucks" So I came the next weekend with a dolly and towed it home. Got it started the next day, but it overheated real quick. I should have done some more diagnosis before tearing it down...

Good choice! I have been there, but I drive like a granny now, tickets get too spendy.

I never got a ticket, I'm more refering the risks I put on those around me and myself in general. If you are smart you'd never see a ticket. All these kids grouping up and racing is like shooting ducks for police. Or the yahoo's racing down the freeway are just looking for a pole to wrap themselves around. Actually I did get one ticket but I wasn't  racing anyone, I had a tricked out Celica and lived in the middle of the desert, was doing about 115mph down this road that was always empty except for this time, saw the headlights pop up over the RXR tracks and just knew who it was. I figured that if it was the CHP he'd turn on his roof lights and I'd stop, well he didn't so I kept going and when I finally stopped for a Stop Sign  he turned on the lights and I waited for him. He liked my car and only sited me for 70mph. He said he couldn't clock me anyways.

Friend bought the one I own now for a parts trucks with a blown motor. Sat in my back yard for a few months, then I traded my built 79 K-5 for a 70 TLC, had way to much work that needed done to it, and me being the impaitent guy I am traded the TLC for the 85, 2 years and a few thousand later it's done..................well for now!!!!

Heres my latest trucks story:

So before I had I it was owned by one of my best friends who bought it from his cousin with a crunched bed and blow headgasket for $150 and he planned on building it into a crawler.  At that time I had a first gen built up about as much as i wanted it to be but then wrecked it and had no truck to drive so I begged my friend and he ended up selling it to me for $200 and a non-running go-ped.  During the time he owned it I put in new seats and he put a new bed on.  I quickly put in the motor from my old truck to get it going along with some 34" exterrains and my flowmaster exhaust, and sterio. Here is how it was then I think this is probably 4th of july or something.--- super clean in and out. Just like that it was the nicest truck you could ever ask for but seeing as I had the pile of parts and much more from my other truck in my yard waiting I did this
and it was still a great truck and I drove it alot and added a bunch more stuff and now it looks like this

and I do this with it
and really just beat on it and hate it and can't wait till the day in september or october when I tear it apart and rebuild it into my dream truck

i found mine in a local flyer, and it was listed 1200.  well i kept calling the number that was listed and getting an insurance agency who was pissed about so many people calling about a yota.  Well turns out there was two close numbers and the guy had them flip flopped so i tried what i thought it was and got him.  Shot down to his house that afternoon with my dad.  The guy was so surprised no one had called yet.  Turned out it was his son's truck who passed on in an accident  and i think he liked the idea of it going to another kid like me with my dad.  Long story short $600 later it was in my driveway.  i still keep intouch with him, he likes seeing how much it changed from a little stock rusty toy to what it is now.

First Truck I ever had was 81 Toyota 2wd pick up I got from my mom. I drove it for almost a year, then traded it for a dirtbike.

A few years later I found a 85 4runner in the paper, called the dude then raced and hour and a half away to pick it up. After driving it for 6 months I decided it was getting tired and sold it to a high school kid. He blew it up with in a month.

Next me and two buddys were driving areound Sacramento looking at a few trucks. They all sucked. We bought an Autotrader at 7-11 and found a nice sounding truck. We drove over there and bought it. I broke it within 6 months, then life got crazy and it sat for over two years. A buddy and I recently fixed it, and I sold it to him on a super buddy deal cause he wants to get into wheelin.

I am still searching for my next truck, but my pile of parts is growing.

So, I woke up that perfect morning beside a woman who looked uncannily like Jessica Alba.  She made me coffee and we lounged on the porch speaking of nothing but toyotas.  We imagined far away paradises of nothing but slick-rock (must have been moab, just with less HEAT) where women only wheeled in bikinis.  Later, after several exhausting rounds of the greatest sex evar, we climbed into her brand spankin new fullsize Toy diesel (which she kindly volunteers to let me tow the runner with) and head off through the pearly gates to adopt my new child of light...

nice man that sounds like a fun mornin haha i loved the way u put that ctenig in ks funny stuff. u know the people i bought my truck from were city folk. u know the kind i people that ni abosolty nothin about cars. so when i got it the tranny was bad. but to my luck thenot very good for them they took it to a mechanic long story short its got new belts new hoses new radiator, but the tranny was still bad. hehe thats why i got it dirt cheap. but the funnist thing they got a jeep after they sold me this and haha ive pulled them out of the snow like 4 or 5 times and every time they were like man i wish i still had that.

Funny, nearly the same thing went down the day I found mine, but it ended with 3 busted teeth, 2 black eyes and a sore pride as she walked away.  Best $800 I ever spent.
