who has seen this runner and ridden in it or drove it?
is everything sound on it Fireball? What needs to be done to it if anything? I would daily drive it so I need it to be able to handle that. Also how many miles on the motor/ truck? Does it run good, drive good. What do you get for mpg? THX
Country Boy Can Survive

FIREBALL

I originally built this rig to be able to daily drive it, but I just never really have. The first couple of wheelin trips I was working the bugs out and it seemed like everytime I went out i'd break something. (mostly rear end problems not design) so then it would sit awhile til I got done being mad and I would fix it.
I've driven it up to the snow (1/2 hour drive) a couple of times, got it up to 55 or 60 and it did real well. I think if I were going to drive it a lot on the road I would maybe switch to some Goodyear Wranglers or something like that. The SSR's actually do very well on the road, but can be a little unruley when they're cold.
Otherwise, I built this rig so I wouldn't have to work on it later. The motor runs great. It had about 85K on it when I bought it from the wrecking yard. It probably doesn't have 87K on it now. I trailered it to Rubicon the 3 or 4 times it's been there and it's only a 2 or 3 mile commute to work for me and I haven't used it for that much either. That's why i'm selling it. It just doesn't get used.
For Oregon, it probably won't need anything. The only thing left for it to be legal in Cali is a CARB approved intake. The polished aluminum tube i've got on there doesn't have a number stamped into it. The only aftermarket intake I can find for it is the K&N FIPK at about 250 bucks. It has a cat, the check engine light is hooked up and it has the charcoal canister. That's all this motor has as far as smog stuff.
I've got no idea about MPG since I haven't driven it enough to know. Starting at Loon lake at Rubicon, wheelin not the springs and back to Loon I still had half a tank. That's a little less than what I used to get with my 22R going out to Tahoe. So I think it will do pretty good on milage. Especially since it's got the 4.88's now. It was a little doggy off the line with 4.10's and 38's.
Let me know if you have anymore ?'s.
Lilbuddy has seen my rig many times and there were quite a few people from the board that were at the round up, i'm sure some of them will post up.

Yeah that runner is seriously one of the best 4 runners. Everything on that thing has been built to perfection. I know he does good work too because he did the steering in my truck and it works great. I would absolutely love to have it myself, considering his 4 runner really was the motivation for me to build my truck, but I cant afford that. I have a couple of pics of it in action and if anyone would like some just let me know and I can get some.

BigMike

I can't believe you finally gave in. You gave into the pressure of boating with babes instead of wheeling with your first love, your YOTA!!!!! AAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG :maddest:

Look, I will personally build a 3RZ powered 1st gen truck and give it to you if that will convince you to get your arse back out on the trails.

To any one who is insterested in this 4Runner: Marlin and I have known FIREBALL personally for many years. I will also go so far as to say that FIREBALL is Marlin's best personal friend. I have stayed at his house and wheeled with him many, many times, and what ever FIREBALL says is the truth. I rode in that beast last year at Rubicon and the width of his axles is amazing. It is so stable no matter what angle it's at. If you saw that truck in person, it's the kind of rig that makes you say "wow! that's awesome!" Just check out the behind the axle HySteer he built, which is difficult on the FJ80 front end because of how the knuckles are designed. Seriously, this rig's got it all, and who ever buys it better take great A+ care to it or you'll be hearing from me :_order:

FIREBALL, I hope you are already looking for another 1st gen.  :bat:

Thanks BigMike. I'll be talkin to you guys soon. Tell mom and dad hi for us.

Did some work to the runner today. Built a panhard bar for the front....wow, what a differance it made on the around town driving. I can truly say now......this IS a daily driver. It handles very very well around town now. Almost makes me want to keep it. We'll have to see.

keep it and register that sucker man !  that thing is pure sweetness

Thanks KWP. If I don't sell it pretty soon, I might have to go to another plan....move the neighbors fence over a foot a week til I have enough room to park all my junk.

Still for sale. I drove it to work last week a couple of times and it's driven sweet. Everything works!

FIREBALL

Did some diggin around in my garage and found the stock 4.3 airbox. If I can find some time, i'm going to work on getting finished (smog) so the ref can give it it's little sticker.
Been driving it to work lately and man it drives nice around town.
