clutch question
« on: Mar 03, 2006, 06:33:29 PM »
I dont have a drive shaft in my truck right now. I am trying to finish adjusting the clutch to get it to disengage. I cant get the clutch to do it. The speedometer reads a steady 15 mph. When I change gears and give it gas I cant go past 25 or it sounds like the motor is gonna blow. It doesnt act like it is in a gear. it just goes up to 15 when the truck is started in any gear. The clutch doesnt work yet or is it working but with out the shaft there is no resistance? Is that because there is no shaft in the truck, thus reducing the amount of drag on the transmission. or is my master cyl/ clutch out of wack?

You need the drive shaft in the trans to keep the tail shaft from spinning. If there is no load on the tail shaft it will turn even if the trans is in neutral.

X2.  The drag on the synchros and bearings from the main shaft spinning all the time will cause the output shaft to spin regardless of gear position.  Stick the driveline in and then report back!
