96-99 4runner ideas?
« on: Feb 20, 2006, 05:32:59 PM »
Hey guys. I might be getting a 98 4runner ltd in the next 2 months. I want ideas of what to do. SAS will be in the works. What should I do for the rear, just leaf springs? Is there anything I should be aware of in these 4runners, problems that occur commonly. Is the automatic strong enough to stand up to wheeling and possible dual cases? Does anyone have pictures of a modded one? My mom bought this car brand new in 98 and it was the first car I ever drove and now she has brought up giving it to me to build up when she gets a new car.

Just got under it for the first time and it has a drivers side drop like the taco's? What is a good driver's side drop axle? Arent FJ80's driver side drops?

Ok, looking at Marlin's site he doesn't offer much for this runner. What are the differences between the 95 4runner and this 98 runner. I'm kind of confused on this project. I want to sas it, but don't know which axle to use. Hmmm may have to rethink some of this.

you would probably have to use a waggy 44 or get a 60 driver side drop, or get a FROR/Diamond axle made.

FJ80's do not have driver side drops they are just like all the other Toy front ends. As for you trans goes, I think you'll be ok with a cooler unless you want 40's and 300hp. All and all its a good truck. If a budget is what you have to work with then just throw some leaf springs under it and go.

My buddy and I are talking and when we talk evil plans take place. I don't want to the body much on this because it is oh so clean. May do 4 link, maybe springs. Who knows? We talked about finding a D60 and possibly a 14 bolt or equivelent. Who knows yet there is still a bunch of planning to do.

the toyota rear end is far strong enough just keep the four link in the rear, long arm it and get longer springs i think that would be best in the rear as for the front i would def go with a wagy 44 for the strenght and thats pretty much the only axle you can use with the same bolt pattern. for the front not only is leef springs easy to install but you'll probly get just as much flex as a four link too
