i have an 87 4runner, it needs a new engine and some other stuff. i want to drop a 350 in it and then put 38s with a 4 or 5 inch lift.

WHITE_TRASH

So do it.  Its not that hard, Ive got a 84 x-cab with a 350/ th350 and toy case in it.  The swap makes the truck too much fun, I finally stopped driving it when I couldnt keep the axles together. :(
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

some friends and i are going to make it a project and do lot of stuff to it
just the intial planning right now. the work will have to be held off until next summer when we r all home from college.

WHITE_TRASH

If you get rid of the ifs crap and add a 3" body lift it'll go pretty smooth.

ya my father said he would put a 3 inch body lift. he knows a lot about cars. so i will listen to him. he has wanted to do this but he doesn't have time.

WHITE_TRASH

Yep you can actually get away with out the body ift but then you get the fun of cutting the tranny tunnel out for the trans belhousing to fit.

Thumper

Hey me and my bro just got done doing this swap on his truck and it is freaking bad there is no comparison between the 4 banger and the v8 we have built some pretty mean 4 bangers before but this is so much better and the power is threwout the power band  instead of haveing too rev a 4 22r too 2 grand or more for the power.
We used a 3 inch body lift and made things much easyer like white said.
we used a 350 motor that is far from stock with a turbo 350 tranny with shift kit and adapted too duel marlin cases and it is bad.
he has 38's right now and 4.10 gears and plenty of power. :driving:
If we can sell his high pinion diffs we are going too go coil suspension and rockwell 2/1/2 ton axles and 44's or bigger, the toy axle's just cant take all the stress the v8 puts out the rear axle has held up but the birfields in the front cant take the stress even with the super birfields :dunno: after a few wheeling trips with us they explode into an bunch of pieces. :_oops:
I can take some pics for you if u would like too show you what it looks like in the truck and the tranny and t case's too give you an idea of how too do it.
good luck
have any ? ask away

If you didn't make it, and it ain't broke, you didn't try hard enough.

Thumper do you by chance have a build up of when you did the work. I am getting ready to install a 350 into my 80 toyota and wanted to do some more reading about the topic. I going to run the 1" body lift so i know that I will have to do some cutting, but I had planed on making it a flat belly. So on the adapter for the dual cases from the t350 was it custom made or from marlin. This is the drive train that i have planed in my head now for the last few months and its great to hear that someone had the same ideas and completed it.
