All 1 TON guys, post up pics of your rigs.
« on: Feb 13, 2006, 07:27:19 PM »
I am REALLY wanting to go with 1 tons and all my buddies think I'm a little nuts for wanting to do this.  They pretty much have the general vote that I should just keep building up my Yota stuff and stay away from 1 tons due to the headaches, cost and other issues.

I am wanting to go to a 60/14 combo and run 42" IROKS maybe even 44's.

I gotta see some pics and some COST info would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

THanks..

Yes, Livin in Kansas sucks azz!!

you're not nuts, I have been thinking about the same combo also. Search for Snohman, he has a 60/9 combo

The costs add up fast for sure.  But I guess it's all relative.  I'm happy with my decision to go to 1-tons.

There's a dana 60 front on ebay right now for $50, atleast that's all it's up to anyway.

DO IT !   going to 1 tons is NOT a headache and you will be stronger than toyota junk will EVER be.  you will have to rework your front hanger since the center pin is 32"   or just stick it in and let it be wider to one side.   get  pinion flanges from Jesse at high angle or his dad from paradise driveline so you dont have to redo your driveshafts .  brake line adapters are cheaaapp..   steering is cake. especially  on a 60 front you can actually make your own steering arms!.
While i did not go 1 tons ( i have a 10bolt and 12 bolt)  i have had FAARRR less headaches than i had with my toyota JUNK and it was easy to do not to mention the nice advantage of much bigger brakes!.  DOOOEEEEEEIIIITTTTT!

I got the front spring pin option handled.  SKY mfg. makes a full width Yota kit that just welds a hanger like any other companys hanger for SAS on a Yota and it has the offset shackles for 200 bucks complete.

Weld it up, roll the axle under it and be done.

wellp there ya go then..   do it :D   it will be one of the best mods you will ever do to yer runner..  just having the width alone is amazing at the gain in stability...   and the added weight will help keep your junk on the ground.  remember  unsprung weight is GOOOD

and heres the other thing on the costs  you gotta think

30 spline longfields.. theres what  600 bucks or more ?   stronger housing.. i dont even want to know..  send the gears out to be cryo'ed  there atleast another 150-200 bucks..  new install kit  100 bucks..  just to name a few things..  by the time you are done building your yota axle up you could have bought a dana60  gear it.. get some 35 spline stubs for 150 bucks  and be done.

I have a friend who is currently doing a dana 60 straight axle swap on his 86 runner and the only headache for him is getting driveshafts that will hook up to his yota and his axles....and all that takes is him driving to a driveline shop and telling them what he wants.

well i don't have pictures but I have the gear just sitting waiting to go under my runner.  Hopefully it'll start here in just a few months.  Specs will be, 22re 5sp, duals (maybe 4.7 in the rear), military 60/14b 4.56's rear disc conv., maybe linked.

Ha Ha! No.... Pretty much all of the rolling around was done before jacking it up and mounting the axle. I had the axle mounted before I welded the new spring mounts but still I did one side at a time with some stands under it.

You know it is funny though.... We take all kinds of caution when we're building it, and that all goes out the window when your on the trail, stuck in between some rocks, in 3' of mud, trying to replace axles(or something) with little more than a highlift.

But NONE of us have ever done anything like that right?.... :hammerhead:
