celica short shifter
« on: Jan 28, 2006, 02:03:12 PM »
So I ended up with one of these. I am doing the swap to 5speed on thursday. is the short shifter too short I have prp seats in the truck but I dont know if the shifter will still be too short to reach. I guess if it is I can just make tyhe shaft longer, right?

its fine....... my truck has a stock shifter, but has a 3" bodylift, aand my shifter is fine for me......

if you need to add to the shifter for height, thats very easy, you can weld on a rod, and die the threads onto it or purchase a ready made shifter extension, i know www.4crawler.com makes one and it's fairly cheap

Yea, you'll be fine.  I put a celica tranny in my 81 2wd and the shifter worked fine, just had to elongate the hole a little cause it poked through a little further back, but since you started with an automatic you should be able to cut the hole exactly where you need it.

Yknow, I've never looked at the driveshafts side by side, but since I've had both and do have the shafts maybe I can check later on.  On the ground the trannies look about the same length, as do the shafts so I'll need to take a closer look.

It shouldn't cost too much to have yours shortened if need be.
