What limits them from using a long travel shock?  Why not?  I was contemplating using these as well :dunno:

I guess I shoulda explained a little more... I've seen pics where they have ripped off the frame... then again I don't know how great the guy's welds were or the other factors involved....... if it were me, I'd bend a 180 or close to it of some tubing, weld on some tabs... weld some tubing to the frame and then put the towers on top........ you can make them as tall as you need then. Either make your own or buy some from Marlin or one of the other companies that makes the shock towers. Everyone does it different... there's no 1 right way to mount shocks.. f250's are cheap but really the materials to make your own hoops would be cheaper than those towers... and be stronger.. it's worth a thought at least.

I just made mine sorta like the ones you see for sale from Marlin and various other places. Pretty easy to do.

the shocks I'm running now have about ten inches of travel and I feel good about how the mounts are positioned and welded on ! If i tried running a 14inch travel shock I would have to move the mounts way up and wouldn't have as much surface area to weld to the frame, thus making them prone to being ripped off ! ... but thats just my observation ?

dude, on a budget they work fine.  gusset them from the back with a triangle shaped gusset and they will work fine until you can upgrade.  Take the following part number to any Ford dealer and they will hook you up

Ford Part #'s - E5TZ-18183-A

yup just make sure you have gussets off the side of them to the top of the frame and you will have no problems with them.
i have had mine for 5 years now and never had a problem with the frame tearing.
the only ones i seen rip off the frame did not have gussets to the top of the frame.

Run what you want. I run the f250 towers and they work just fine.
Alot of people run them.
Hack the old shock mounts off and weld the new ones on.
Just make sure to brace the back side of the Ford shock mount.

Basically you could do this 2 ways

Put a peice of 2x2 sqaure tubing behind it flat on top the frame rail behind the ford shock mount weld it to the top frame rail and to the top of the shock mount.

Or cut 2 triangle peices of flatbar with a long arch to them weld those to the backside of the shock and top of the frame. Either way you are taking stress off the side of the frame rail.

Ford Towers work fine..Make sure you gusset them to the top of the fame to keep them from ripping off when bottoming the shock out.

i ran the f 250 towers for about two weeks and my welds held just fine but they ripped off my frame and left some real big and nice holes in it.  i still have them if you want them for 20.00 but i would recommend building your own.
