Can Back Info
« on: Jan 11, 2006, 01:26:06 PM »
Can Back got bought out.  The guys that purchased the company name are moving the business to Pheonix, AZ.  They are keeping the phone number (877) 763-8867 and will have a new web site up soon.  They seem to be commited to making a quality product and the former owner is going to hang around for a while to serve as quality control.  The new tops will be made out of Sunbrella (a good quality fabric), and they should be going into production on 84-89 4Runner tops in March.  The tops they make are going to be utilizing the same design, but specialty orders will not be taken, so if you shrortened your Runner you are SOL.  They won't be doing any Chrome framwork, only powdercoat, and color choices will be black and tan.  I was quoted a price of 1200 bucks for one.  If you aren't inclined to spend quite so much you can get a vinyl top from STC  (http://thejeep.com/stc/toyota.html) by calling 1-800-THE-JEEP (843-5337).  They charge 517 for theirs.

$1,200 is pricey for the product. My buddy's 4 runner that is bobbed and has the stainless hoops didn't pay that much. I will probably try to duplicate his frame work (it's not that complicated) and have a boat shop make the top.  :twocents:

depending on the grade of the vynil, its probably pretty decnet for the cheap one, i had a vynil top on my explorer, it was a jeep safari top, and it was pretty thick and held up well
