Which trans to run?
« on: Aug 14, 2003, 07:08:04 PM »
Hi everyone, I've been off the board for a while. I had to put my toy on the back burner for a while. But now, I'm back and have a question. I have a 82 4x4 toy. With a 86 turbo engine in it. I have the stock 82 trans and transfer case behind the engine. I know that the stock trans is weak. It won't hold up to the power. I would like to know what trans I should be looking for? Thanks in advance, Carl.

well you could convert you t-case to a 23spline wich is what the turbo runners trucks and runners run.as far as trans goes what do you have now?Is it a 4 or 5 speed? :beerchug:

I presently have a 5 spd. I would like to keep a 5 speed in the truck. Thanks in advance, Carl.

The tranny's in our Toy's ARE the weakest  link,Get a turbo trans 'R' series OR get a V-6 trans and use a turbo bellhousing and clutch/flywheel from a '93-95 22re truck, the only other part you'll need is the clutch ARM from a turbo truck, but by using the V-6 trans you'll need the v-6 adapter to 4cyl t.c. (about $350.00), eventually I'm going this route, the turbo/v-6 'R' series tranny's ARE the best to use and upgradable...Stew
