hard starting 22re
« on: Jan 10, 2006, 09:50:38 PM »
My motor drives me crazy, I have a 94 moter swaped into my 85.  When i first get up in the morning and go start the truck it will start right up without gas but will idle at like 700 800 rpms but runs fine.  After my daily drive of about 40 minutes to school it sits without being started for 3 hours.  When I go to start the truck after school it wont start, the starter will turn but the motor wont turn over.  It only starts if i spray some starting fluid in the air filter, or roll start it.  I have new plugs and wires.  Any ideas of whats going on?
thanks
Jacob

I once had a 85 runner that had the same problem.

After many waisted hours, it turned out to be a dragging fuel pump.

Check also for vacume leaks, efi circuir opening relay, air box connections ect......

My 94 started doin' that about 5K miles ago I think it is due to lower compression from high milage

is it a fuel injected motor or did you keep the carb on there? if it is fuel injected i have heard of one of the injectors sticking and draining any remining fuel into the cyclinder, thus making it very difficult to start. ok...new question, you said the starter turns but the motor doesnt, do you mean the starter spins and the motor doesnt catch and fire up?
