Bottom End Rebuild on 22re
« on: Dec 15, 2005, 11:55:55 AM »
Has anyone out there done an in-frame bottom end rebuild on a 22re. Can it be done by removing the oil pan and changing bearings and rods. Let me know!  Thanks, :wall:

they have a one pice rear oil seal. maybe you can get it done without banging up the seal, butt why not just pull it and do the rear seal too?
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

It would kinda be like building a ship in a bottle.

Pulling the engine may sound harder, but I believe in the long run, you will find it easier to pull the engine.

How many miles are on the engine and how old is the timing chain? When you have the crank out you might as well throw in some rings too?

i say pull the engine..... i jsut had my tranny out and redid the rear seal, als orecently a couple months ago had the fron apart as i did the tchain..... if the whole engine was out, it would have been much easier.....

the timing chain was replaced recently according to the guy I bought the 4runner from.  The motor runs strong, good pep. for 208,000 mi; new clutch as well.   Motor runs good, knock sounds bad. I don't have alot of time for pulling motor but if thats what needs to happen I'll have to make time.  If anyone else has information about this repair let me know (thanks). :beerchug:

if it's knocking, 9 times out of 10 it's not gonna go away with new bearings.  damage has already been done -- only way to fix it is to yank the engine and have a machine shop do their job on the components.

Amen to that...crank journals are prob out of round, need line bore.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5
