Topic: few tranny questions L43 and W58

Right now I have a failing L43.   It's pops out of reverse, finds a lot of neutrals and sometimes locks up when shifting.  Can the shifter/side cover be removed while in the truck and will a 2wd counterpart interchange with that cover.

I also have a good 2wd w58 out of a supra.  I'm thinking swapping in  4wd output parts.  With the 3.2:1? first gear I would change the diffs to 5.29 from the stock 4:.37's.  Has anyone ran a similar setup and was the transmission gearing a problem when wheeling?

I talked to marlin about it a while back, and if I remember right you're gonna need the tail end of a w series 4by tranny to make it work, and a 4cyl w series bellhousing.

and that 3.2 1st gear is going to be a little better than taing off in 2nd gear,   where are you,  i have a good 43  i'll sell cheap,  $50
