« on: Dec 07, 2005, 10:35:40 AM »
When I back out of my driveway (whichh is flat) I hear a pronounced POP that sounds like its comming from the rear of the truck.  It only does this when I am turning in reverse. is this ujoints or something else. the POP is really loud and you can feelit inthe whole truck. I have a long bed 2wd. with a lincoin Locker. I cant figure it out.

Well it could just be the lincon locker.

Or I would suspect a loose spring pack..

its torsion bars......

or sideloading of the rear springs.... they dont like being twisted, and they slide on each other.....

now you may think the torsion bars arent in the back, but if you look the bar mount is very far back, thus giving hte conception its coming from there rear

my '79 has always had a noticeable clunk when i back up too.  i think it's something to do with the rear springs.

I know when I used to back up in my trucks that had detroits, it would clunk do to th backlash setting, but that's if you have a detroit.

hes got a welded rear end, that could easily be the reason, i could see that making it worse than the detroit
