Gear ratio's
« on: Nov 18, 2005, 07:52:33 PM »
I have an 89 extra cab with a 22RE and a 5 spd tranny,  I'm running 31X10.5 BFG MT's.  with this tire I'm a little under powered.  I have a friend who has a 1990 toyota 4runner that is wrecked.  it has a V6 and an auto tranny.  Would this have 4.56 gears like I've heard or how can I find out?  If it does will the diffs work in my 89?  Thanks Justin

Only one way to find out, look in his door jam.  There's a tag with a buncha info on it, go down to one of the last lines and find a code that starts with G and has 3 numbers after it ending in #2.  Post up the two digits between G and #2 and I'll tell ya what he has.  I'm gonna find the page with the info and see if bigmike will make it a sticky in general 4wd or something.

Oh and yes, the rear is a drop in but I'm not 100% sure on the front, but I'd say yes.

Congrats, you're the proud daddy of 4.10s!  The 4cyl autos had 4.30s, but I've never possesed or laid hands on a v6 auto to see what was there.

My new diff's are in.  I now have 4.88's!!!   I have a lot more power now that I put my G144's in this morning.  The V6 diffs are so much beiffeir than the 4cyl.  here are some pics of the old and new diff.
