I know it won't be a chain driven case, but what do I have?

If it is like earlier units it will be 100% an automatic unit. My 86 4Runner's tcase was that way and had auto-trans fluid instead of gear oil and was seprable from the trans but was open to the trans inside so that the fluid would flow through. Found this out when rebuilding it and the t-shop didn't rebuild the tcase along with the trans and it only lasted a couple mos. before failing again. Took it to Mogi and they rebuilt both and I never had any more trouble. That's why you can't put a crawlerbox in the auto since it would prevent the flow of fluid to the tcase.

Yeah, I know I can't turn it into a crawler box, I'm just curious what they are... :dunno:

It should be the t case that is seperable from the trans since it's an 01 and behind the 3.4, and it is chain drive. It should be the VF2A.The trans should be the A340f.
