Just picked up my new rig...an 87 4cyl on 39.5's...needless to say its not gonna win a drag race....am i better off adding the intake, header, exhaust, cam combo...or swapping the head from a 22rtec, and turning up the boost a little :-)

ps: gears are 5.71

im just really looking to wale it up a little....pics will come soon

thanks in advance, and sorry for the n00b question

Uhhh.... to get thos lugs moving... a lc stroker crank would give you some nice torque.
Or if youre on a budget go for a full h/o ported head from engnbldr.com ... he's seen up to 143hp at the crank with just his heads and a weber 38mm.... about 45hp more than stock... headers arent really needed but an exhaust is... 2" to the cat and 2 1/4" the rest of the way back seems the way to go... and pick your cam, crawler (261c), midrange (268c) or highway/power (270)...

although it'd definitely be trick, the from the posts i've seen on pirate, the LC stroker kit doesn't really seem to give you a lot more power than a good running engine with a cam, port work and a header would give you.  it's only 200cc more displacement...

i might look into one of LC's supercharger or turbo kits, though.  i'd love to build a blown 22R, just a matter of time and money :rivers:

I'd say go 5.29's and rebuild your engine with a good cam, header, intake.  Just from my header I put on mine I noticed a nice improvement on a very worn out 22re (250,000)  Personally I wouldn't change my gears to anything higher than a 5.29 with the stock 4 cyl. power.  now if I had a v8 or something I'd consider those higher gears just my 2cents

Gotrocks,  the higher the number  the lower the gear ratio+more power

ie, 5.71's will give you more power than 5.29's although they may be actually weaker because the pinion is so small

who knows
stepping down to 35's or 37'swill help get rid of all that useless weight
actually if i was wanting to run 37's  i think i would go with a 17 inch aluminum wheel

going from 5.71's to 4.56's  is going to put you with less power

dont worry about the stroker,  just get yourself a good mid range cam ,  run a compression check  you need rings if under 150 psi /cylinder

i wouldnt drop to 4.56's
