FROR FF kit
« on: Nov 07, 2005, 04:30:55 PM »
I have the FROR FF kit.  I am installing it on a Toy IFS rear housing.  I have 83 Land Cruiser rotors and 95 V6 Runner calipers.  1 problem I am having is the calipers I got from NAPA they bolt right on, but they are 3/8 too wide with the pads installed.  Now with the caliper installed the rotor is not quite centered.  I am concerned that when the pads wear the pistons could overextend themselves?  Are there different IFS callipers?  I am aware of V6 and 4 cyl.  Did NAPA give me the wrong calipers?  Thanks.  Jim

you really should use the stock solid axle rotors and calipers on the rear

:headscratch:   your problem has me stumped

I bought 4 of the cruiser rotors.  I am thinking that with my SFA widening kit I will be using IFS rotors?  If thats the case I will already have 2 cruiser rotors more than I need.

My original goal was to keep all 4 corners the same.

yea i understand what you wanted,  but you would really need a good proportioning valve or you'll be locking the rears up

hey how much do ya need for the other 2 rotors

Can't picture the calipers you are using but are they floating calipers? If  they are, the first time you apply the brake they will center themselves on the rotor and the gap will disappear.

You really don't need the vented rotors in the back. The heat dispersion will be real nice with them in the front. Use an aftermarket porportioning valve or set the stock valve in the back in one place. Some adjustment will be necessary there.

I don't know what rotors the FROR kit is supposed to use but I understand if you match rotor to caliper it should be just like stock.

The kit I have calls for 79/85 SAF stuff.  I already had the vented rotors for the front and my front axle is not quite ready for assembly so I bought the calipers and started to install the FROR kit.  The calipers are not floating so my concern is that when the pads wear down the pistons could over extend and cause problems.  I know it was overkill but I already had the 4 rotors all I needed was the calipers.  I was told all IFS calipers are the same minus V6/4 cyl.  My goal was to then run the FJ master cylinder which should have made the brake bias OK?  Thanks.  Jim

you need to use the sfa calipers with sfa rotors in the rear with the front range kit, if I understand correctly.  The sfa rotor is thinner than the ifs rotor.  So if you use an ifs caliper on a sfa rotor, you will have a gap.  As to whether the pistons will pop out, it's possible.  The best route would be to use what the kit suggests.  Save the extra rotors so you can use them once you warp or wear out the current ones.

I am not sure what the problem is with my calipers?  I will find out.  I guess no one on here has had this problem?  There is no reason why this wont work.  If it works on the front end and I have to use the front end parts on the rear end.  The rotor is on and fits the caliper bolts up.  There is just to much space between the pads.  This BLOWS big time as I have SO MUCH coin in this set up only to find I need spacers now that I had no intentions of running.  WTF
