for the most part the specs on my rig would be alot of I don't knows ! I don't even know what year it is for sure the dmv says
1986 but they didn't make an 86 scrambler. the Vin says 1981 and an old registration says 83 so you tell me .but it has a 360 v8 which is not the original which was a I6 4.3 I think, the trans and transfer are the stocks for the veh(haven't got to in depth yet as what models) the front and rear axles are both stock (i was told frt is 30 and have verified the rear is an amc20  :reg: ). I am just now getting in to checking and verification of all the information.(does anyone know where i can find the #'s on what should be a Dana30 frt axle(I think thats what he said it was )I had this all written down in a journal but it got stolen out of my truck about a year and a half ago . I used to work next to a junk yard and the parts manager did me a favor and went over the truck wrote down all the numbers and what they where but it got stolen before i got to read much of it .

UHm the best bet is to save your pics as JPEG when you do save pics because they seem to be :dunno: more compact I guess. You get more pic for the size. But for the pictures you have already what I do is go into the paint program and go to Image then to strech/scew and then you can resize the pictures. Probably the hard/long way of doing it but thats the easiest for me. Hope you get it figured out so we can see some pictures. :welcome:

the D30  isnt that bad of a axle,  but if you go bigger than 33 inch tires you better find some dana 44's    find a 3/4 ton pickup at your buddies junkyard and get front and rear,  usually the rears are dana 60's and the fronts 44's

or  you could swap in toy axles :dunno:

new info does anyone know a site or resource where we can identify a transmission by these # they are on the passenger side of the transmission behind the transfer case shift linkage
first line 13-07-065-901  and just below that is either w.g or w.o div maybe stands for Willy's overlander div? there is also what looks like markings on the tail end well it's the transfer at that point but I can't make those out yet ran out of time had to go to work :snare: stupid work always getting in the way :talkingn:
And does anyone know where on the axles I can find any #'s that will tell me what I have

Here's the easiest way for you to resize you images........

In the upper right-hand corner of your computer screen there is a bunch of little icons. One of them is Microsoft Photo Editor, open it and then open the picture you want to resize. Then in your menu bar find the edit button and you will find the resize button, the box will open, change the inches to pixels, change to highest # to 500, click Ok. Now try to post it again and it should be small enough. Now depending on which puter you are at right now you may not have the photo editor, but dispatch has 2 different editors, don't use the Picasa I haven't played with that one yet. If you can't figure it out you'll just have to wait till I get there and I'll show you how to use it. :gap:

Oh yeah one more thing....... :welcome:

ok lets try this! Oh hey surfer your on I think thats what I did in a long way round . I used outlook to email the pics and photo editor well you way sounds easier but lets give this a try
the first one is the engine overview, next is the passenger rear view of the transfer, then drivers side of transfer, then the linkage viewed between the 3" body lift gap on passenger side

There should be a tag on one of the bolts with a # on it. That would be the info you would need to tell you what the front axle is. I never looked but as a guess, if it came with a 6cyl. it will be a 30, if it came with a V8 it WILL be a 44. Of course that tag won't be there since it probably has been modded.

the transfer case is a Dana20 ? I thought I asked you and you said you didn't know  :headscratch:  Oh well no harm I had fun
yes we have been here before no tag,and the stock motor was the 4.3 inline 6. as a matter of fact I wouldn't mind putting it back that way if I didn't need more power . someone told me awhile back that the older landcruiser 6's  would be a better choice than the jeep's but that is a matter for later days. for now i just want to get her on the road. she's a 4x4 not a storage unit

I'm not 100% yet a member on jeep tech site says my transfer case is a dana 300 not a dana 20 and gave me a link to a thread

www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/xfer/d300.html

the picture looks right and the description sounds right but I'm not sure I could use a second opinion and a third and fourth also. if you all wouldn't mind

Im 80% sure the scramblers came with the 300 cast iron t case. A very good t-case! Jeep reading you will be a Jeep historian in no time.

yes if it is the stock transfer than it is a Dana300 (bulletproof is how the site put it) but the motor is not the stock it had a 4.? in-line 6. but like you say the more I read the more it sounds like a 300,it looks like a 300,it must be a 300

Yeah the stock motor was most likely the 4.2. A real torque engine, they last forever, 7 bolt main, high nikel content. Thats about as much as I know about Jeeps since I sold my soul to Toyota a few years ago and never looked back!  But Jeeps can kick some a$$ if built right.  Just get her reilable for now and have fun with it stock.

yep I talk to the guy on 4WD.com forums again he said it was a 4.2L I6. once again he used the word bulletproof and he says he has a place that if I wanted? they have about 15 that they rebuild/to your specs and swap for my motor+$$$$ how much depends on my motor but  :smack: the shipping would kill me. he's in norway  :yikes:  when I first started talking to him about it  I thought it said norwalk which is right near where I live :tantrum: why !!!!!!!! :rivers: . but thats OK get it  :driving:  first ! then go from there  :usa:

Are you talking about the front being a 44?.Front is a standard rotation 30.Most 86 cj7s that had the I6s in them came with a 44 rear, but the front was still a 30.
