i went to take my bent ass rear driveshaft off today and noticed that i can move it up and down, after futher investigation i found that the flange that connects the drive shaft to the diff moves up and down.  I was wondering how you fix this? Do i just have to tighten that nut or do i have to remove my 3rd?  Any help would be great thanks  :help:

Sounds like your pinion bearing exploded

Pull it!

Take the driveline off and check to see if the pinion nut has been staked to keep it from backing off.  If not tighten it and stake it in place.  Even if it has been staked its worth a shot to tighten it down snug and see if you can still turn it.  If its tight when the nut is snug then a bearing is toast, it should be a bit of resistance not hard to turn when its in its proper range.

it looks as if it has been staked but ill try to tighten it, aslo would it be way bad to drive it  like that because im have to go get measurements for my front drive shaft tomorrow?

Yeah, I'd give the pinion nut a crank before pulling it, you'll know pretty quick if it's a bearing after you tighten it. Don't try driving it loose though, the pinion will hit your carrier and start grinding on it.

I have the same problem with my front diff mine goes in and out and up and down and leaks, I'll pull your rear if you pull my front :ha_ha:. If you don't have one already go with the solid crush sleeve while its apart.

When 6 of my rear pinion teeth broke off and got between the gears it wobbled like this too, I snugged the nut and ran it for 11 months.  When the guy I sold it to pulled it apart to rebuild it he said everything inside fell out.  Just sayin if you re-torque it and run it you'll likely pound it down to nothing leavin you stranded somewhere down the road...or trail.
