toyhatsu

Daihatsu USA has quit stocking parts at the old dealerships and parts were just too expensive...$9.00 for a C clip to rebuild the Aisin hubs.  There was nothing wrong with the Daihatsu engine but I never went anywhere that I wasn't willing to have it towed.  Over two years I found deals and bought parts for an eventual all Toyota drivetrain swap.  I was looking for a 22RE at the time that I found the 3RZ.  I am REALLY happy with the 3RZ.  It gets as good of gas milage as the old 1.6L engine as long as I keep my foot out of it.  It has Nology HotWires and I can burn 87 octane gas and it has enough power to chirp the new 35" tires. Best of all the engine is made in Tennessee so I can go anywhere and not concern myself agout finding parts. :twocents:

Just another happy 3RZ-fe owner :gap:

Yeah, why is the 3.slow an option on your list and not the 3RZ? I am going to cry....... I bet the 3RZ would be just as easy to swap in as a 3.slow. No matter what you do here, you are going to have to do wiring anyways (more so if you are putting in an EFI engine).

A 3RZ in that little thing would really be a screamer!

3RZ :headscratch: It's isn't on the list cuz I don't know what it is sorry, I'm old school :screwy: Where would I find an 3RZ? :smack: And why would it be more if it's an efi engine? My 2.6 is efi, does that make a difference?

To the Toyota purist it makes a lot of differacne. To do so is a kin to drinking with out your pinkie extended. (a big no-no )

just because there was no other truck in 87 other than what could be called a Hil-lux does not mean it's ok to call it a Tacoma. :smack:

I hope this sort of distasteful thing can be avoided in the future as it give all toy lover a bad taste in there mouths.

Maybe because if you say Tacoma, everyone in the whole wide world will assume you are refering to the latest edition of Toyota's line up of truck not an earlier model like a hil-lux which by the way is an earlier version of the Toyota mini's. If you call it a Tacoma nobody is going to think that you would even be refering to lets say an 85, 86, 87, 91, 92 or the like.

If you swap the motor, you're going to need a new tranny/driveline too.  What do you have planned?  man/auto?  toy/something else?

I think for the largest driveline options, stick with the GM 60 deg v6/fwd bell housing.  3800 f-body, 3800 SC fwd motor, northstar, 3.1/3.4 will all work as well.  With this, you can run:

Isuzu MUA 5-speed & t-case
Toy R150/151 & t-case/crawler

For autos:
Toy A340-F & t-case/crawler
Jeep AW4 & Dana 300
TH700/4L60-E & Dana 300/NP241 or whatever

Other's I'm sure too.  The T5 manual, AX-5 (or 15?), 4L30-E, etc.  Lot's of stuff is available using factory bell's for the 60 deg V6 pattern.

I'm biased towards the 3800.  Currently I'm running a 3800 SC motor with a Lightning M112 SC, AW4, 4:1 Klune-V and Dana 300.  It all makes for a short setup that fits the Amigo no problems.  Lots of power and stupid low gears.

Buy std cab chevy truck w/ solid axle...remove body. Take one amigo, remove body...(unless amigo is unibody?). Place migo body on toyota frame...wire it up...drive.

a chevy std cab with a yota frame?  :slap:

what about a 5VZFE?
'99 SR5/TRD Tacoma w/5vzfe. SAS'd with 64" diamond axle (w/ long superset & ARB). about 5" of lift, 305/75 x16 BFG KM1's. Soon to come: 1.5" more lift (6.5"), 35 to 37" tire, undecided at this point., 63" F/F diamond rear, Marlin 4.7 tacobox.

*FFC*

:dunno: right now.. I'm more focused on a front axle before a motor since my halfshafts just grounded my Migo... Still can't decide which axle to go with...

How bout a 3 cyl deisel...this would be a cool tiny buggy motor.

FFC, is the motor in the migo bad?  Why do you need to swap it out, you should be able to use it.  Take some picks of the underside ofthe migo for us...I betyou could set her up with a divorced toy case and a new axle up front and be good to go!

The early migo engines were so so, but later they did have a V6 option that gave you GM's 4.3, now that's a nice setup. I have debated going with either a migo or Rodeo before, and did a lot of research on them. The have a fully boxed frame and most come with a d44 rear axle. They would be #2 on my list right behind a Toyota.

No 4.3.  They used the GM 2.8 and 3.1, then later the Isuzu built 3.2 & 3.5 motors starting around the early/mid 90's.

Motor ain't bad yet.  It makes tons of noises and runs funny, but it's still goin. This is all just to get some ideas for when it does finally go out.
